Our client is seeking a versatile, self-directed Shopify Developer to serve as the technical architect behind a brand-new e-commerce store. Working directly with the business owner, you will take full ownership of the web development process, transforming initial single-product concepts into a polished online storefront. In this end-to-end development role, the Shopify Developer must ensure the website is fully compatible, highly responsive, and optimized for seamless mobile viewing and purchasing.

Client Overview

Our client is an emerging Australian e-commerce business in the baby products industry, launching their flagship online storefront featuring high-quality infant care products. As a growing startup building their digital presence from the ground up, they are establishing the technical foundation for a scalable product line. They are onboarding a remote Shopify Developer to take full technical ownership of their store build from initial concept to a fully operational, high-converting launch.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, flexible hours aligned with Sydney, Australia Business Hours (AEST/AEDT) (20 work hours per week)

Responsibilities:

Store Development & Mobile Compatibility

- Building, configuring, and launching a complete Shopify storefront from initial platform setup through to go-live readiness.
- Implementing custom responsive design, ensuring complete mobile device compatibility, touch-friendly navigation, and fast mobile page speeds.
- Designing and customizing high-converting product landing pages, cart drawer interactions, and intuitive site navigation menus.
- Connecting custom domains, configuring DNS settings, and ensuring technical stability across all platform integrations.

Backend Setup & Operational Optimization
- Integrating, configuring, and end-to-end testing payment gateways, shipping rules, tax settings, and checkout workflows.




- Optimizing site performance, asset sizes, loading speeds, and overall technical user experience across all screen sizes.
- Providing strategic guidance to the business owner on e-commerce best practices, Shopify app selections, and long-term store maintenance.
- Collaborating directly with executive leadership to translate commercial vision into clean, functional code and site logic.

Requirements

- Proven experience building, customizing, and launching complete Shopify stores from scratch.
- Demonstrated ability to build fully mobile-compatible, responsive e-commerce websites that deliver seamless shopping experiences on smartphones and tablets.
- Robust, reviewable portfolio demonstrating past custom Shopify store developments and responsive design execution.
- Self-motivated mindset with the ability to operate independently, solve technical bottlenecks, and advise non-technical founders in an early-stage environment.
