The mechanical engineer is responsible for the design, development, technical specification, manufacturing support, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of HVAC products and mechanical systems manufactured and supplied by Shapeair/ecoHVAC.

The position applies mechanical engineering principles to the design and manufacture of HVAC products, including ductwork, dampers, VAV systems, and associated mechanical components. The role works across engineering, estimating, production, and project delivery functions to ensure that products are technically compliant, manufacturable, fit for purpose, and delivered in accordance with customer and project requirements.

The position also provides engineering support throughout the product and project lifecycle, including reviewing technical requirements, preparing and reviewing engineering drawings, resolving design and manufacturing issues, developing manufacturing specifications, supporting production and implementing improvements to engineering processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities1. Mechanical Engineering Design and Development

- Design and develop HVAC products, mechanical components and systems in accordance with engineering principles, applicable standards and project requirements.
- Develop and modify mechanical designs for ductwork, dampers, VAV systems and associated HVAC products.
- Prepare, review and maintain 2D and 3D CAD drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CAMduct and other relevant engineering software.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications and project documentation to identify technical, dimensional, manufacturing and installation requirements.
- Select appropriate materials, components and manufacturing methods based on product requirements, performance, durability and manufacturability.
- Develop and maintain engineering specifications, product information and manufacturing documentation.
- Evaluate proposed designs for functionality, manufacturability, performance and compliance with project requirements.

2. Manufacturing Engineering and Process Improvement

- Work closely with the production team to translate engineering designs and specifications into efficient manufacturing processes.
- Determine appropriate manufacturing methods, material requirements, dimensions, tolerances and production processes.
- Develop and improve manufacturing processes for HVAC products within the company's lean manufacturing workplace.
- Investigate production and engineering issues and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Analyse manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, quality, consistency and material utilisation.
- Assist in implementing engineering improvements, automation and process-control initiatives.




- Review production feedback and incorporate engineering improvements into product designs and manufacturing processes.

3. Technical Project Engineering

- Review project specifications, drawings and technical documentation to establish engineering and product requirements.
- Provide technical engineering support from tender/quotation stage through design, manufacture and delivery.
- Assess technical requirements and determine appropriate HVAC product configurations and engineering solutions.
- Identify and resolve technical issues arising during design, manufacturing and project delivery.
- Coordinate engineering requirements with production, estimating and project teams.
- Review project changes and assess their technical and manufacturing implications.
- Ensure engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with project requirements, specifications, quality requirements and agreed timeframes.

4. Engineering Specifications and Documentation

- Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, technical documentation, product specifications and manufacturing information.
- Develop specifications for materials, components, dimensions, tolerances and manufacturing requirements.
- Review technical documentation for accuracy and consistency before release to production.
- Maintain engineering records and product information within company systems.
- Ensure relevant engineering information is communicated clearly to production and other internal stakeholders.

5. Quality, Testing and Compliance

- Establish and maintain engineering quality requirements for HVAC products and manufacturing processes.
- Investigate product defects, manufacturing issues and technical non-conformances.
- Conduct or coordinate appropriate inspections, measurements and testing of products and components.
- Analyse engineering and quality issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Work with production to ensure products meet engineering specifications, customer requirements and applicable safety and industry requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of product quality and reliability.

6. Production and Technical Support

- Provide engineering guidance to production personnel regarding drawings, specifications, manufacturing methods and technical requirements.
- Investigate production difficulties and recommend engineering solutions.
- Provide technical clarification regarding product dimensions, materials, configurations and manufacturing requirements.
- Assist in resolving complex product and installation-related technical queries.
- Train relevant staff in engineering-related product requirements, manufacturing processes and technical procedures.
- Monitor recurring technical issues and implement engineering improvements to prevent recurrence.

7. HVAC Product and System Performance

- Analyse HVAC product requirements and assess the suitability of proposed mechanical solutions.
- Work with mechanical consultants and clients to clarify technical requirements and product interfaces.




- Review product performance requirements and identify design improvements where required.
- Assist with the development and improvement of HVAC products and systems.
- Evaluate design alternatives with consideration of performance, manufacturability, cost, quality and project requirements.

8. Project Coordination and Delivery

- Coordinate engineering deliverables with estimating, production and project teams.
- Assist in planning engineering activities required to meet manufacturing and project schedules.
- Coordinate the release of drawings, specifications and technical information to production.
- Monitor engineering-related project issues and assist management in resolving delays or technical constraints.
- Ensure engineering work is completed accurately and within agreed project timeframes.

9. Engineering Systems and Continuous Improvement

- Use engineering and manufacturing systems including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CAMduct, SAMMS and Excel to support engineering and manufacturing activities.
- Maintain accurate engineering and production-related information within company systems.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement and improved engineering workflow.
- Develop and implement engineering initiatives that improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency and operational performance.
- Report engineering progress, technical issues and improvement initiatives to management.

10. Technical Stakeholder Support

- Liaise with mechanical consultants, clients, architects, designers and contractors regarding technical HVAC requirements.
- Provide engineering explanations and technical recommendations relating to product design and application.
- Review customer/project requirements and translate them into practical engineering and manufacturing solutions.
- Support the commercial team with technical engineering input where required, while maintaining the primary focus of the position on engineering design, manufacturing and technical delivery.
