Your opportunity to make an impact

Clear requirements are fundamental to standards that can be understood, implemented and verified consistently. Reporting to the Head of Quality and Practice, as Requirements Engineer you will help ARISO strengthen that foundation across its national standards portfolio. This is an enterprise specialist role with no direct reports: you will influence through expertise, methods and governance, connecting policy intent, operational need, risk evidence and technical clauses through disciplined systems-engineering methods and traceability. In doing so, you will help reduce ambiguity, expose hidden assumptions and improve the consistency and auditability of standards and related products.

What you will shape and deliver





Design and maintain ARISO’s enterprise framework for elicitation, analysis, allocation, traceability, verification and change control.

Provide authoritative advice on clarity, consistency, verifiability and completeness of requirements.

Lead governance of requirements tools and databases, ensuring reliable baselines, links and evidence.

Maintain traceability from mandates, policy and risk evidence through to clauses and verification.

Facilitate structured requirements discussions, resolving contested or unclear needs with stakeholders.

Coordinate requirements contributors across portfolios via agreed standards, tools and priorities.

Continuously improve methods, templates, guidance, tools and training from review findings and feedback.

What you'll bring

You are an experienced systems or requirements engineer who enjoys bringing clarity to complexity. You can trace the line from operational need and risk through to precise, verifiable requirements, and you know how to facilitate difficult technical conversations without losing sight of the system as a whole. You influence through expertise rather than hierarchy and care about language, logic and evidence. Rail experience is welcome, but we are equally interested in strong requirements capability from aerospace, defence, infrastructure or other nationally integrated and safety-critical environments.





Degree-level qualifications in systems engineering, software engineering, engineering or a related technical discipline.

Deep practical experience in requirements elicitation, analysis, allocation, traceability, verification and change control in complex or safety-critical systems.

Demonstrated ability to apply systems methods proportionately, expose hidden assumptions and connect operational needs, interfaces, risks and technical specifications.

Extensive experience with enterprise requirements-management tools or databases, including governance, configuration and data-quality controls.

Strong understanding of standards or comparable regulated technical products and the need for clear, auditable and verifiable language.

Ability to lead specialist practice, coordinate contributors and drive clarity across senior, operational and technical stakeholders without positional authority.

Excellent analytical, written, facilitation and presentation skills for technical and executive audiences.

Also valued: Experience in rail, transport, infrastructure, aerospace or another nationally integrated and safety-critical environment; INCOSE certification or equivalent professional recognition.
