Location: Logan Central
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Risk and Compliance Officer to join the Corporate Governance branch within the Council. Play a key role in supporting Council's strategic objectives by promoting best-practice risk management and compliance. Working across a diverse organisation, you'll help identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and strengthen decision-making
Position responsibilities include:
- Provide expert advice and support on risk management and statutory compliance.
- Deliver projects that strengthen compliance, governance, and risk management practices across Council.
- Facilitate risk and compliance workshops to identify, assess, and mitigate organisational risks.
- Monitor, maintain, and enhance Council's Risk Management and Compliance Framework.
- Manage corporate risk and compliance registers, reporting systems, and associated data.
- Deliver training, education, and guidance to stakeholders across the organisation.
- Conduct investigations and root cause analyses to identify improvements and prevent future issues.
- Support the development of policies, systems, and processes that improve compliance and minimise risk.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and communicate complex concepts in a clear and practical way.
- Prepare high-quality reports and recommendations for senior leaders and key decision-makers.
- Represent Council at meetings, forums, and industry networks on risk and compliance matters.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and good governance.
Level 6 responsibilities:
- Lead complex risk and compliance projects and investigations.
- Prepare strategic reports for senior leaders and key decision-makers.
- Identify business improvement opportunities and drive innovative solutions.
- Represent Council and build strong stakeholder relationships across the organisation and industry networks.
Requirements:
- Qualifications in governance, risk management, compliance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of risk management and statutory compliance frameworks, principles, and practices.
- Experience interpreting legislation and providing practical risk and compliance advice.
- Knowledge of risk and compliance systems, databases, and reporting tools.
- Strong investigative skills, including root cause analysis and managing compliance matters.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
- A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and delivering high-quality outcomes.
Additional Requirements for Level 6
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or substantial experience in a similar role.
- Experience mentoring staff or supporting team leadership activities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, drive business improvements, and solve complex problems.
- Confidence working independently and exercising sound professional judgement.
