About the role

As the Litigation Specialist with QSNTS, you will provide specialist litigation, advocacy and legal practice support across the Legal Division, with a focus on client-led outcomes.

Reporting to the Principal Lawyer, you will represent QSNTS as a party to litigation, undertake complex legal work, develop legal submissions and specialist advice, and act as Solicitor on the Record where allocated. You will be deployed to matters requiring additional legal capacity or specialist litigation expertise, ensuring continuity of legal services to native title claim groups, applicants, Prescribed Bodies Corporate and Native Title Holders. Partnering with the Principal Lawyer, you will develop and implement legal practice directions, drive consistent legal service delivery and build the capability of the legal teams through mentoring, training and technical support, and work collaboratively with the Legal, Development & Engagement, Anthropology and Corporate Services teams to deliver coordinated, culturally informed and client-led outcomes.

This is a full time, fixed-term position based in Brisbane. Regular travel within Queensland and weekend work are required.

Key responsibilities





- Provide specialist litigation support and strategic advice to Lead Solicitors on complex matters and proceedings.
- Support litigation at all stages — evidence, research, drafting court documents, submissions and briefing Counsel — and act as Solicitor on the Record where allocated.
- Prepare and review complex pleadings, affidavits and submissions.
- Advocate for clients through written submissions, negotiations and representation at meetings, mediations and stakeholder forums.
- Lead the development of litigation methodologies, precedents and practice resources, and identify systemic legal risks.
- Mentor and build the capability of Lawyers, Junior Lawyers and Paralegals, including backfilling roles to maintain continuity of service.

About you

- Admitted legal practitioner with a current Queensland Practising Certificate (or able to obtain one promptly) and enrolment on the High Court Roll of Practitioners.
- Minimum 5 years post-admission experience in litigation and/or native title law, gained at a reputable firm or in an equivalent senior role.
- Demonstrated litigation experience, preferably in the Federal Court, including court appearances and drafting court documents.
- Strong knowledge of native title, cultural heritage, corporations, contract, trust and property law, and Indigenous land rights legislation.
- Excellent legal research, analytical and drafting skills, with sound judgement in managing competing priorities.
- Experience mentoring legal professionals and working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team, with knowledge of issues affecting First Nations peoples and communities.
- Willingness to travel within Queensland and work weekends, with a current open driver's licence.
