AOD Opioid Withdrawal Treatment Nurse (DATP)

About the role: The AOD Opioid Withdrawal Treatment Nurse is primarily responsible for the management of a small clinical caseload, and the development and maintenance of key stakeholder relationships to support the implementation of the Community and Pharmacy-Based Opioid Treatment Prescribing Pilot Program in Kempsey.

In addition to these stakeholder engagement responsibilities, the position maintains a small clinical caseload, providing trauma-informed, person-centred withdrawal management support to participants. The Nurse works alongside GPs and other healthcare providers to assess withdrawal symptoms, support treatment progression, and contribute to positive health outcomes for individuals experiencing alcohol and other drug-related issues.

About the program: The aim of the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program (DATP) is to achieve improved health and social outcomes for individuals, families, and communities at risk of, or currently affected by, problematic alcohol and other drug use. It supports people at all stages from early intervention to relapse prevention.

Hours and location:This full-time role is 35 hours per week, the position will be based between Port Macquarie or Kempsey with some travel between the two. The role is hybrid with options to work from home and in the community. A work vehicle is available for travel. The role is funded until 30th June 2027 with potential for extension.

$$$: This role will be remunerated at SCHCDS Level 5 ($53-55ph) with access to salary packaging to potentially increase your take home pay by another 5k.

BA Nursing or Post Graduate Diploma in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or a specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program with full current registration with AHPRA.

Current driver's licence, a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check

Comprehensive assessment, screening, and clinical management skills relating to low to moderate drug and alcohol withdrawal.

Knowledge of evidence-based psychological interventions, contemporary treatment approaches, and harm reduction strategies for people experiencing AOD withdrawal.
