An established and growing mid‑sized accounting firm in Brighton is seeking a motivated Intermediate Accountant to join its Business Services and Tax team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant with at least two years’ relevant experience who wants to develop their technical skills, take greater ownership of client work and build a long‑term career within a supportive and quick‑moving professional practice.

You will work across a diverse portfolio of clients and entities and gain hands‑on exposure to taxation, financial reporting, business services and direct client liaison.

Full training and ongoing professional development will be provided, with genuine opportunities for career progression for the right person.

Visa Sponsorship Available

In addition to those with unrestricted Australian working rights, the firm will accept a suitably qualified applicant who currently holds a subclass 482 visa.

The Role

- Preparing income tax returns for all entities including individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships and superannuation funds
- Preparing financial accounts and statements including profit and loss statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements for all entities mentioned above
- Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual Business Activity Statements and Instalment Activity Statements
- Assisting and liaising with clients on their financial matters through use of email, telephone, in person and all other equipment that the employer may provide.
- Processing client accounting information and performing account reconciliations
- Identifying required accounting adjustments and assisting clients with financial and taxation matters

- Ensuring financial reports are prepared in accordance with applicable Australian Accounting Standards
- Liaising with the ATO, ASIC and other government authorities on client matters
- Assisting with business registrations, ATO portal matters, ASIC updates and renewals
- Assisting with tax planning, business structures and other business advisory matters
- Taking instructions from senior accountants as well as working collaboratively with them and other team members on client assignments and projects
- Visiting client premises when required
- Taking increasing responsibility for assigned work as your experience develops

About You

We are looking for someone who is serious about building a career in public practice and becoming an important long-term member of the firm.

Ideally, you will have:

- A Bachelor of Accounting, Commerce or equivalent qualification
- A minimum of two years’ relevant Australian accounting and taxation experience
- Experience preparing financial statements and Australian income tax returns
- Experience working with companies, trusts, partnerships and individual clients
- Experience with accounting and taxation software such as HandiSoft, Xero and MYOB
- Strong understanding of BAS, IAS and general Australian taxation compliance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with other team members.

- Experience in customer service as well as confidence communicating directly with clients and working with them to attain desired results
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills
- Demonstrated ability in maintaining current knowledge of taxation, accounting and regulatory requirements
- A preference for a long-term career opportunity, rather than simply your next short-term position

The Person We’re Looking For

Technical ability is important, but attitude and commitment are equally important.

You will be:

- Dedicated and dependable, with a strong sense of responsibility for your work
- An autonomous self-starter who can take ownership of assigned tasks
- Equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Proactive and willing to contribute wherever required
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast‑paced professional environment
- Flexible and prepared to assist during particularly busy periods when required
- Professional and confident when dealing with clients
- Committed to accuracy, deadlines and high‑quality work
- Committed to the company’s rules and regulations, able to demonstrate ability to maintain strong commitment in meeting performance expectations and maintaining good relationship with clients and other team members of the company.

What We Offer

- Permanent, full‑time position
- Comprehensive training and ongoing professional development
- Genuine opportunities for career progression
- Broad exposure across tax, accounting and business services
- Direct client interaction and the opportunity to build your own professional capabilities
- Support from experienced senior accountants and the firm’s Principal
- A dynamic and fast‑moving mid‑sized accounting practice where your contribution will be recognised
- Long‑term career opportunity for the right person
