What we do

The Telecommunications and Network Engineering (TNE) Branch sits within the Infrastructure and Operations (I&O;) Division in the Technology and Digital Programs (TDP) Group.

The branch is responsible for delivering modern, resilient and high-performing network and telecommunications services that empower our staff, partners and customers to connect, collaborate and deliver with confidence – from anywhere, anytime.

Our focus is on innovation, security and reliability - ensuring the right technology foundations are in place to support the agency’s digital ambitions and the Australians who depend on our services.





The branch delivers Network, Telecommunications, Gateway and Data Centre connectivity for Services Australia and shared service partners. Our Network covers more than 1,000 locations across Australia and supports secure Tele-Platforms, Networks and Gateway Services for other Government agencies.

Our core branch operations enable the agency to deliver secure and reliable IT solutions and services to customers, partners and staff.

About the role

Infrastructure Engineering Experts manage and maintain ICT infrastructure platforms and services, including design, configuration, deployment, security and operations.

Infrastructure Engineering Experts use deep technical knowledge to deliver reliable, secure and high-performing services. They provide authoritative technical advice, support operational direction and lead the management of complex infrastructure environments.

At the EL1 level, the role operates with a high degree of independence, setting priorities, managing outcomes and influencing decisions in line with business objectives. The role may lead staff, drive improvement and contribute to broader organisational outcomes.

We are recruiting across two technical streams:

- Data Centre & Network
- Gateway Services

Both roles require leadership and management skills

- Lead and manage a team to increase performance and engagement through coaching, capability development, performance management, and health and well‑being support.
- Lead and evaluate operational practices to ensure continuous improvements; contribute to strategic planning.
- Effectively engage and communicate technical information with internal and external stakeholders with varying technical understanding and literacy.

Data Centre & Network





The Data Centre & Network stream, commonly referred to as Data Centre Network (DCN), is responsible for the secure, reliable and high-performing network foundations that support Services Australia’s critical systems and services. The team manages complex data centre networking environments, including Cisco ACI, Nexus switching, F5 application delivery, IPAM/DDI and related infrastructure. DCN plays a key role in maintaining availability, resilience, cyber compliance and lifecycle management across production environments, while supporting major infrastructure changes, technology refreshes and continuous improvement through automation and modern network engineering practices.

Gateway Services

Gateway Services stream is responsible for managing the secure internet gateway connectivity for Services Australia and its shared services agencies/departments. The Gateway Services team plays a vital role in securing networks by managing and controlling data flows between different security domains. The team enforces security policies and helps protect our systems from external threats.

The team specialises in internet routing, enterprise networking techniques including Cisco ACI and Nexus switching, firewall management, DNS solution, proxy management including the secure web gateway and other cutting‑edge network security platforms.

We ensure the gateway infrastructure adheres to governance policies and compliance requirements in accordance with the Information Security Manual (ISM), Essential Eight (E8) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
