Cobden Coaches is looking for an experienced and qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team in a key full-time position based in Cobden, with responsibility for supporting our operations across our Cobden, Camperdown and Skipton depots.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanic who takes pride in their work, values safety and reliability, and would enjoy working in a small, dynamic and genuinely hands-on team minus the corporate bureaucracy, where your contribution makes a direct difference every day.

You’ll play an important role in keeping our buses safe, reliable and ready to transport school students, community groups, charter passengers and customers throughout
South West Victoria.

You won’t be working on the same vehicle every day. You’ll work across an established fleet of approximately 28 buses, with a mix of vehicle types and brands, providing a broad range of mechanical work and plenty of variety.

Attractive salary – $55 - $60 per hour / $110,000 to $120,000 + superannuation,
depending on experience and qualifications

The role

Working as part of our operations team, you will be responsible for helping ensure Cobden Coaches maintains a safe, reliable and well-presented fleet.

Your key responsibilities will include:

General servicing and maintenance of buses and coaches

Completing scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance programs

Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults

Carrying out repairs to buses and heavy vehicles

Identifying potential mechanical issues before they become major problems

Inspecting vehicles and ensuring they are safe and roadworthy

Completing maintenance records and relevant documentation

Test driving vehicles following servicing and repairs

Assisting with breakdowns and maintenance requirements across
Cobden, Camperdown, Derrinallum and Skipton

Working collaboratively with drivers and other team members to identify and resolve vehicle issues

Supporting the ongoing improvement of fleet reliability and preventative maintenance

Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop and work environment

Working in accordance with all relevant workplace health and safety requirements and vehicle maintenance standards

What we're looking for

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or an equivalent trade qualification





Demonstrated experience working with trucks, buses or other heavy commercial vehicles

Strong mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding skills

Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Ability to follow instructions and established maintenance procedures

A strong commitment to workplace health and safety

A high level of attention to detail and pride in workmanship

A current MR or HR driver's license

Experience in the bus industry is highly regarded, but experienced truck and heavy commercial vehicle mechanics will also be strongly considered.
