About BEROS

BEROS is a partnership between Community Living Association and Micah Projects. We support young people aged 12 to 18 who are in the child safety system and may be self-placing away from their approved placement, sleeping rough, or staying somewhere unsafe or unstable.

We are looking for skilled, caring and reliable casual Overnight Support Workers to provide practical, relationship-based support in BEROS emergency accommodation. There are three vacant roles available. Applicants who are willing to work across all three sites — Sippy Downs, Dakabin and Wavell Heights are strongly encouraged to apply. This role may suit people studying or experienced in social work, human services, youth work, community services or related areas.

About the role

As an Overnight Support Worker, you will work alongside young people in a calm, respectful and trauma-informed way. Each BEROS house supports up to two young people, with one worker on shift. Overnight workers have access to a private bedroom and after-hours on-call advice from BEROS Case Managers.

Shifts are generally rostered from 5.00 pm to 9.00 am on weekdays and include an 8-hour sleepover. Weekend shifts may vary depending on need. Workers may also choose to be on-call, with allowances paid for eligible on-call shifts.

What you will do

- Build secure, respectful and culturally safe relationships with young people.
- Provide practical overnight support, including safety planning, harm reduction and de-escalation.
- Support young people’s wellbeing,



daily routines and connection with services.
- Complete case notes, incident reports, emails and data entry in a timely way.
- Work alongside BEROS Case Managers, Street to Home workers, Child Safety After Hours and other services.
- Help with the shared running of the BEROS houses, including cleaning, groceries and keeping spaces safe and welcoming.
- Attend supervision, team meetings and professional development.

About you

You will bring patience, reliability, good judgement and a genuine respect for young people’s choice, dignity and lived experience. You will be comfortable working independently overnight while staying connected to the wider BEROS team.

- Experience or study in youth work, social work, human services, community services or a related area is valued, but a youth work qualification is not essential.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice, attachment, harm reduction, risk assessment and safety planning.
- Ability to respond calmly when a young person is distressed, in crisis or showing escalated behaviours.
- Commitment to working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, LGBTIQAP+ young people, families, services and communities.
- Current driver licence.
- Blue Card / Working with Children Check.
- First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain one within 3 months.
