This is not a traditional five-day-a-week compliance management role. The business already has an internal Compliance Officer supporting day-to-day activity and is looking for a senior practitioner who can provide the experience, structure and oversight needed at leadership level - while coaching the existing resource and helping build a sustainable compliance function.
The remit is broad, with a strong focus on Australian consumer credit / ACL obligations and AML/CTF. The successful person will need to be comfortable moving between strategic advice, framework uplift and practical implementation.
What you'll be responsible for
- Act as the senior compliance adviser to founders and leadership, providing pragmatic and commercially grounded advice.
- Review and uplift the compliance framework across ACL and consumer lending obligations.
- Review AML/CTF arrangements, risk assessments, policies and controls and help ensure the business remains aligned with regulatory change.
- Develop and enhance policies, procedures, monitoring, governance and compliance risk assessments.
- Translate regulatory developments into clear actions and priorities for a growing lender.
- Coach, mentor and provide technical oversight to an existing Compliance Officer.
- Support regulatory and compliance queries arising from funders, financing partners and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to relevant compliance, credit risk and leadership discussions and provide clear reporting on key risks and actions.
- Identify where targeted specialist support is required and help scope or oversee those projects.
What we're looking for
- Strong compliance experience within consumer lending, non-bank lending, banking, fintech or a closely related credit environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Australian consumer credit legislation and ACL requirements.
- Working knowledge of AML/CTF frameworks and regulatory obligations; candidates combining strong credit compliance with practical AML exposure will be particularly relevant.
- Experience operating across a broad compliance remit rather than a highly siloed specialist role.
- A track record of building, uplifting or maturing frameworks in a growing, changing or relatively lean business.
- The ability to work independently and turn complex regulatory obligations into practical solutions.
- Strong stakeholder skills and the confidence to advise founders / executives while developing a more junior compliance resource.
- A practical, commercial mindset and comfort working in an entrepreneurial environment.
Why consider it?
- Senior-level influence without the commitment of a full-time role.
- Direct access to founders and key decision-makers.
- A genuine prospect to shape the compliance environment rather than inherit a heavily established function.
- Flexible structure suitable for an experienced fractional consultant or senior practitioner building a portfolio career.
- Growing lending business where compliance is becoming increasingly significant to its next stage of development.
