TJI Group Pty Ltd is looking for an experienced Working Site Supervisor / Leading Hand Carpenter to join our growing residential construction team.

This is a genuine mix of hands-on carpentry and site management .

You will work on the tools when required while also taking day-to-day responsibility for coordinating and supervising a portfolio of residential projects running concurrently across metropolitan Melbourne.

Our current workload includes 28–60 m² studios and secondary dwellings , together with larger extensions and residential projects up to approximately 120 m² .

The individual projects are relatively straightforward residential builds, but there are multiple jobs running at different stages at any one time. The key to succeeding in this role is being highly organised, technically strong, results-driven and able to plan ahead .

TJI Group is also expanding into larger townhouse and multi-unit developments, creating a genuine opportunity for the right person to grow into larger-scale site supervision and construction management over time.

The Role

The balance between hands-on work and supervision will vary depending on the workload and stage of each project.

Some days you may be working alongside the carpenters to complete a critical stage or resolve a construction issue. Other days will be spent travelling between projects, coordinating trades, checking workmanship and planning upcoming works.

Your priority is making sure the overall portfolio of projects remains organised, properly supervised and on programme .

Responsibilities will include:

- Preparing and maintaining construction programmes across multiple projects

- Planning upcoming construction stages and coordinating trades

- Preparing material take-offs from construction drawings

- Selecting and booking approved subcontractors

- Managing subcontractors and monitoring workmanship

- Coordinating carpenters and apprentices in conjunction with the builder

- Carrying out hands-on carpentry where required

- Checking survey set-out, dimensions and levels

- Reading and interpreting architectural and structural drawings

- Inspecting critical construction stages before work is covered

- Identifying defects,



drawing discrepancies and construction issues early

- Coordinating plumbing, electrical, HVAC and other building services

- Coordinating required inspections with our office team

- Maintaining day-to-day site safety, presentation and organisation

- Managing site cleanliness and arranging labour where required

- Maintaining photographic records of construction progress

- Providing clear progress updates and raising delays or risks early

- Communicating professionally with homeowners during construction

- Identifying potential variations or additional works before they proceed

You will have strong support from our office team with procurement, administration and compliance, and will work closely with the builder on programming, resources and technical decisions.

This is predominantly a road and site-based role .

About You

Ideally, you will be a qualified carpenter with a strong residential construction background and experience as a Leading Hand, Foreman or Site Supervisor.

We are looking for someone with:

- At least 4 years' residential construction experience

- At least 2 years' experience supervising or leading trades

- Solid hands-on residential construction knowledge

- Experience coordinating multiple jobs, trades or work fronts

- Excellent attention to detail

- Confidence reading architectural and structural drawings

- A strong understanding of construction sequencing

- The ability to recognise poor workmanship and resolve problems early

- Strong organisational and time-management skills

- A results-driven attitude and willingness to take ownership

- Good computer and administration skills

- Strong communication skills

- A professional and respectful manner with homeowners, trades and staff

- Current Victorian driver's licence

- White Card

Experience managing multiple residential projects concurrently or working on townhouse and multi-unit developments will be highly regarded.

We want someone who plans ahead, takes ownership, notices problems early and gets things done.

At the same time, we work closely as a team. We value confidence and initiative without arrogance and expect issues to be raised early when input is required.

Strong client-facing skills are also essential. Many of our projects are carried out at existing residences, so you will regularly deal directly with homeowners and must be approachable, respectful and professional.

Initially, your focus will be our smaller residential projects while working closely with the builder.

As your capability develops, there will be opportunities to become increasingly involved in our larger developments and progressively take on greater responsibility.
