Policy Officer contributing to policy, legislation and program initiatives that support departmental priorities, reforms and government objectives.

As a Policy Officer in the Policy and Legislation Branch, you will contribute to the development, review and implementation of policy, legislative, regulatory and program initiatives that support the Department of the Workplace, Tourism, Science and Innovation and Queensland Government priorities.

The Branch forms part of the Environment and Heritage Policy and Programs Division, which leads the development and coordination of environmental,

conservation and waste policy, strategy and legislative frameworks. The Division delivers initiatives supporting environmental stewardship, biodiversity conservation,

heritage protection, wetland management, waste and resource recovery, water quality improvement, Great Barrier Reef outcomes, and bioregional planning.

The Branch is responsible for key legislation and strategies, including the Environmental Protection Act 1994, Environmental Offsets Act 2014, Nature





Conservation Act 1992, Queensland Heritage Act 1992, the Queensland State of the Environment Report, Conserving Nature – A Biodiversity Conservation Strategy for

Queensland, and the South-East Queensland Koala Strategy.

This position is located within the Legislation Unit, which develops, reviews and coordinates environmental and conservation policy and legislation. The role supports

policy and legislative projects through research, analysis, stakeholder engagement, and the preparation of evidence-based advice and recommendations.

Responsibilities include:

- Identifying and analysing policy issues and opportunities;
- Assessing policy and legislative options;
- Developing practical policy solutions; and
- Supporting policy and legislative reform implementation.
