A large, well‑established Australian financial services organisation is investing seriously in AI across the way it builds and runs technology. It is appointing a hands‑on Senior Manager to build and lead a current AI engineering team, hire the engineers, and put AI to work across how its technology products are delivered.

This is a builder's leadership role. You set the direction, you still write and review code, and you grow a small team into a capability the wider technology function relies on.

What you will do

- Build, hire and lead an AI engineering team, starting small and growing it.
- Put AI to work across how software gets delivered: AI‑assisted coding, testing, requirements and design, and the tooling that makes it stick.
- Build shared platforms and tools that other engineering and delivery teams actually adopt.
- Work with product, architecture, data and security teams to take AI from pilot to everyday practice.




- Measure what changes (delivery speed, quality and adoption) and report it to senior leadership.

What you bring

- You have led a small AI or software engineering team, and you are still hands on.
- You have rolled out AI‑assisted engineering in a team or organisation (for example GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or tooling you built) and can show the result.
- 10 or more years in software, data or platform engineering, much of it in large or complex organisations.
- Experience leading Agile delivery and bringing engineers, product and architecture along with you.
- A plus: experience organising enterprise knowledge or data (data models, metadata, catalogues or knowledge bases) so AI tools can use it well.
- Sydney based for a hybrid pattern, with full Australian work rights.
