Experienced Auditor - Audit Technology & AI Implementation

Wessels and Co Pty Ltd is seeking an Experienced Auditor - Audit Technology & AI Implementation to join our external audit team based in Brisbane. This is a contract position that offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation within our audit practice by implementing cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence solutions. The role combines traditional audit expertise with forward-thinking technological implementation, making it ideal for an auditor who is passionate about modernising audit processes and enhancing audit quality through automation and data analytics. You will work on-site in our Murarrie office at QLD 4172, collaborating with our audit team to transform how we deliver audit services to our clients.

Key responsibilities

Lead the assessment, evaluation, and selection of audit technology and AI tools to enhance audit efficiency, effectiveness, and quality

Reviewing existing audit processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency and audit quality.

Helping redesign audit workflows and templates to take advantage of automation and AI-enabled tools.

Identifying appropriate uses of generative AI within the audit process, including planning, risk assessment, analytical procedures, documentation, financial statement review and completion procedures.

Developing practical AI prompts, workflows and internal guidance that can be used consistently by the audit team.

Assisting with the migration of existing audit methodologies, templates and working papers to the new audit platform.

Integrating the new audit platform with our existing technology environment where appropriate.





Helping establish appropriate controls and policies around the use of AI, including confidentiality, data security, professional judgement and audit documentation.

Training and supporting staff as new systems and processes are introduced.

Working with the audit partners to continually identify opportunities to simplify processes and reduce unnecessary administrative work.

What we’re looking for

Minimum 5+ years of external audit experience with a strong foundation in audit methodology and principles, preferably within an Australian public practice environment

Proven experience in audit technology implementation, process automation, or data analytics within an audit environment

Sound knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications within audit and assurance services

Strong Excel and Microsoft 365 skills

Proficiency in audit management software and data analytics tools

Strong understanding of audit risk assessment and the ability to identify opportunities for technology-driven solutions

Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple technology implementation projects simultaneously

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and support audit teams through technology transitions

Professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA or equivalent)



or demonstrable equivalent experience

Ability to think strategically and provide recommendations to improve audit efficiency and quality

Knowledge of relevant audit standards and regulatory frameworks in Australia
