Nestled along the iconic Savannah Way in NW Queensland, Carpentaria Shire sits on the spectacular south-eastern shores of the Gulf of Carpentaria, a place where wide-open spaces, rich fishing grounds, and genuine outback character come together. Spanning approximately 65,000 square kilometres, this vast and vibrant region is home to a close-knit community of nearly 2,000 people, centred around the twin hubs of Normanton, the historic heart of the Gulf Country, and Karumba, the Gulf's premier fishing and sunset destination.

About the role;

Base salary of $103,435.07 with the prospect to earn over $150k p.a. inc allowances & overtime, subsidised house, negotiable relocation to get you (and the boat) up to the Gulf!

As Workshop Leading Hand, you'll be the driving force behind the day-to-day operations, leading and mentoring the crew, allocating jobs, and keeping work on track.

Reporting to the Workshop Foreman the role will include;

- Coordinate daily job allocations and keep the workshop running to schedule
- Provide hands-on technical support and mentoring to fitters and apprentices
- Carry out mechanical assembly, welding, electrical testing, air-conditioning, hydraulics, diagnostics,



repairs and maintenance — in the workshop and out in the field, including Council's remote camps
- Conduct heavy machinery works and heavy/light vehicle inspections
- Handle vehicle recovery and float movements for machinery
- Maintain accurate job records, fuel and lubricant issue sheets, timesheets and compliance documentation

What we're looking for include;

A recognised Mechanical Trade Certificate in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Commercial Vehicles or Light Vehicle Maintenance.

Demonstrated mechanical servicing, maintenance and fault-finding experience.

Experience working with heavy vehicles, machinery and hydraulic systems.

The ability to lead, communicate effectively and provide guidance to other employees.

A minimum Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver Licence, Multi Combination (MC) desirable.

Heavy machinery tickets or a willingness to obtain them

Current National Criminal History Check, or willingness to obtain

Pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol testing.

Approved inspector of heavy and light vehicles

Heavy machinery tickets (forklift, backhoe, grader, excavator, loader, roller, bobcat) or willingness to obtain
