Far West Local Health District is seeking a confident Locum ED In-Charge Doctor to provide senior Emergency Department cover across a remote regional hospital network.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Emergency Physician, GP VMO or senior registrar with in-charge ED experience who is comfortable taking on senior decision-making responsibility in a well-supported regional setting.

Clinical Environment

You will provide senior Emergency Department cover within Far West LHD.

Senior ED responsibility – work as the senior decision-maker during rostered shifts
Broad rural case mix – manage trauma, acute care, rural medicine and procedural presentations
Clinical leadership – support patient flow, decision-making and supervision where required
Remote specialist backup – work with clear escalation pathways and remote support available
Meaningful regional medicine – gain leadership experience in a high-autonomy environment

Patient Demographic

You will support a broad regional and remote Emergency Department patient mix, including adults, older patients, paediatric patients, trauma presentations, acute medical cases, rural medicine presentations, critically unwell patients and people requiring assessment, stabilisation, escalation, retrieval or transfer.

Key Duties

Provide in-charge Emergency Department cover
Assess and manage acute and emergency presentations
Lead clinical decision-making during rostered shifts
Support patient flow, escalation and retrieval coordination where required
Supervise or support junior medical staff where appropriate




Complete clinical documentation and handover
Work collaboratively with nursing, hospital and remote specialist teams

Requirements

Current AHPRA General or Specialist Registration
PGY5+ with in-charge ED experience, or FACEM / GP VMO experience
Recent Emergency Medicine or rural ED experience
NSW Working with Children Check and National Police Check
Australian working rights
Comfortable with clinical leadership and supervision responsibilities
Current CV, references and compliance documents as required
