Project Manager – Civil Infrastructure and HDD

Summary

Maxibor Australia is seeking a hands-on Project Manager to join our team based at Jacobs Well, Queensland.

Maxibor is a specialist horizontal directional drilling (HDD) contractor delivering complex trenchless infrastructure projects throughout Queensland and New South Wales. This permanent, full-time position will be responsible for managing multiple projects from planning and mobilisation through to completion and close-out.

The successful candidate will coordinate specialist drilling crews, plant, subcontractors and suppliers while maintaining strong control over project safety, quality, programs, costs and contractual requirements. This role requires regular communication with clients, principal contractors, engineers and internal stakeholders, as well as travel to project sites when required.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage multiple HDD and civil infrastructure projects from award through to practical completion and close-out.
- Develop and maintain project programs, budgets, resource plans and cost forecasts.
- Coordinate drilling crews, project personnel, specialist plant, subcontractors, suppliers and materials.
- Plan project mobilisation and ensure sites are ready for Maxibor’s crews and equipment.
- Liaise with clients, principal contractors, engineers, consultants and other project stakeholders.
- Review project drawings, specifications, scopes of work and contractual requirements.
- Review, understand and administer each project’s contract, including the scope of work, responsibilities, exclusions, notice requirements, time bars, variations, extensions of time, payment claims and other contractual obligations.
- Monitor project productivity, costs and performance against the approved program and budget.




- Identify delays, variations, latent conditions and other commercial issues and ensure notices and supporting records are prepared within contractual timeframes.
- Prepare progress reports, cost reports, project forecasts and other required client and management reporting.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, productivity, safety, quality and environmental compliance.
- Work closely with Maxibor’s HSEQ team to ensure compliance with company systems, client requirements and applicable legislation.
- Coordinate project documentation, including permits, inspections, quality records, daily reports and completion documentation.
- Proactively resolve technical, operational and commercial issues affecting project delivery.
- Build and maintain solid working relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
- Support tender handovers, project start-up meetings and lessons-learned reviews.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.

Qualifications and Experience
- Qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline are preferred.
- At least two years’ experience managing civil construction or infrastructure projects.
- Experience in horizontal directional drilling, trenchless construction, pipelines, utilities or major civil works would be highly regarded.




- Strong understanding of construction programs, budgets, cost control and resource planning.
- Strong commercial and contractual knowledge, with the ability to interpret and administer construction contracts and identify contractual risks, entitlements and notice requirements.
- Sound experience managing variations, delay notices, extensions of time and progress claims.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Strong leadership, planning, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and project planning or project management software.
- A strong commitment to safety, quality and environmental compliance.
- Current Australian driver’s licence.
- Construction Industry White Card.
- Willingness to travel and work at project sites throughout Queensland and New South Wales when required.

You will be practical, organised and comfortable working in a fast-moving project environment. You will take ownership of project outcomes, communicate clearly with both site personnel and clients, and identify potential problems before they affect the program or budget.

You will be capable of working independently while remaining closely connected with Maxibor’s operations, commercial and HSEQ teams.
