This is a fixed term, full time appointment for up to 12 months with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.

Position Profile: We are seeking a suitably experienced person who can utilise their consumer or carer Lived Experience to provide community engagement; project, consultation and facilitation support across WACHS mental health and alcohol and other drug services. The position works in Central Office within the Mental Health Lived Experience program to enhance the delivery of recovery oriented, person-centred care across all WACHS regions through the development of Lived Experience led projects, education and activities. The position leads and contributes to education, mentoring, consultation and project related activities by building the capability of the regional workforce, strengthening meaningful engagement with service users, families, communities and lived experience perspectives.

Area Profile: The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is the largest country health system in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, providing health services to approximately half a million people, including 45,000 Aboriginal people, over a vast two and a half million square kilometre area. The organisation comprises seven regions, with a strong network of public hospitals, health services and health centres located across rural and remote Western Australia. Our core business is the provision of quality, accessible health services to country WA residents and visitors.

WACHS Mental Health Central Office is a skilled and dynamic team drawing on a wide range of experience and backgrounds to reflect diversity in cultural, consumer, peer and clinical perspectives across a range of functions to support and develop contemporary mental health and alcohol and other drugs services across the state. WACHS mental health services provide a broad range of clinical services including face to face and virtual service delivery formats.

Suitability Criteria: Suitability recognises that a range of factors contribute to merit, including skills, knowledge, abilities, behaviours, ethical alignment and relevant operational requirements. The suitability requirements below are derived from the proposed Job Description Form and define what will be assessed to determine your suitability for the role:

1. Substantial experience working in a Lived Experience (Peer) role, including contemporary knowledge of the mental health Lived Experience (Peer) workforce and the ability to promote recovery-oriented and person-centred care.
2. Demonstrated ability to design, develop and deliver Lived Experience and consumer/carer engagement initiatives that authentically capture diverse voices that translates into meaningful service improvement.
3. Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate projects and consultation activities, including analysing qualitative and quantitative data to inform decisions and outcomes.
4. Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and negotiate confidently across diverse audiences including demonstrated facilitation skills.
5. Well-developed written skills including report writing for various audiences.





Proposed criteria for the new position

Essential Criteria

1. Substantial experience undertaking a Lived Experience (Peer) role with demonstrated knowledge of the mental health system, the Lived Experience (Peer) workforce evolution and application of peer practice.
2. Demonstrated experience in developing Lived Experience and consumer/carer engagement initiatives.
3. Demonstrated experience and well-developed skills in project management, with an ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
4. Demonstrated experience in consultation, and analysing quantitative and qualitative data.
5. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including interpersonal and negotiation skills.
6. Ability to prepare and design communication materials for diverse audiences, including report writing.
7. Possession of a current C or C-A class driver’s licence.

Desirable Criteria

1. Experience in facilitating and/or supporting the facilitation of workshops and focus groups.
