About the Opportunity

The primary purpose of the Assessment Officer is to assess complaints and determine whether further action by Ombudsman SA (OSA) is warranted. As an Assessment Officer you will:

- Identify issues and conduct preliminary enquiries into matters
- Identify matters suitable for early resolution and engage with complainants and agencies to seek outcomes
- Conduct research on background material including relevant legislation
- Prepare written correspondence
- Refer matters warranting investigation or complex assessment to relevant OSA teams
- Participate in outreach and community engagement

What you’ll need to succeed

- Experience dealing with complaints, including managing challenging complainant behaviours
- Ability to read and understand legislation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of the roles of state government departments, local government councils and statutory authorities
- Ability to manage a high volume caseload and determine priorities
- Experience applying legislative framework in the assessment of complaints is desirable

The Ombudsman acts independently and impartially, and promotes fairness, integrity, transparency, accountability and good public administration in SA. Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested.
