About the Role

MacKillop Catholic College is seeking a dedicated and skilled Woodwork and Metalwork Workshop Assistant to join our Facilities and Industrial Technologies team. This is a full-time position based in Johnston, NT.

This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the College's woodwork and metalwork workshops. The successful applicant will maintain workshop equipment, machinery, tools, and facilities to a high standard, ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and supporting the day-to-day operational needs of the workshops.

Key Responsibilities

- Maintain workshop equipment, tools, and machinery in a safe, clean, and operational condition.

- Conduct routine inspections, servicing, and preventative maintenance of workshop machinery and equipment.

- Coordinate repairs and liaise with external contractors and service providers as required.

- Prepare and organise materials, equipment, and workspaces for workshop activities.

- Maintain workshop cleanliness and housekeeping standards in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.

- Monitor and manage inventory levels of materials, consumables, tools, and equipment.

- Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance schedules, equipment servicing, repairs, and stock control.

- Assist with the safe storage and handling of hazardous substances and materials in accordance with relevant legislation and College procedures.

- Support compliance with workplace health and safety regulations, risk management processes, and secure operating procedures.





- Conduct regular safety inspections and identify hazards, reporting and addressing issues as appropriate.

- Assist with workshop setup, reconfiguration, and general operational requirements.

- Support the maintenance and organisation of workshop storage areas and facilities.

- Assist the Maintenance and Infrastructure Team with workshop-related projects and other operational duties as required.

About You

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

- Practical experience in woodwork, metalwork, engineering, maintenance, or a related trade environment.

- Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and safe work practices.

- Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting workshop machinery and equipment.

- Excellent organisational and time management skills.

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high safety standards.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

- Physical capability to undertake manual handling and workshop maintenance tasks.

- Ability to maintain accurate records and manage workshop inventories.

- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving maintenance and operational issues.





- Hold a current Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card), or the ability to obtain and maintain one prior to commencement.

Desirable

- Trade qualification in carpentry, cabinet making, engineering, metal fabrication, fitting and machining, or a related field.

- Previous experience in workshop operations, facilities maintenance, or a similar environment.

- Experience working within a school, training, or large organisational environment.
