Eaglehawk Secondary College (ESC) is a Year 7–10 college committed to meeting the diverse learning, wellbeing and engagement needs of young people as they prepare for senior secondary pathways, further education, training and employment.

Students from ESC progress to a range of senior secondary pathways, including the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) at Bendigo Senior Secondary College (BSSC). ESC maintains a robust partnership with BSSC as a member of the Bendigo Education Plan (BEP) cluster of schools.

The College has approximately 570 students drawn from Eaglehawk, Bendigo and surrounding rural communities, with enrolment growth projected towards 700 students. The College was completely rebuilt in 2012 and provides outstanding contemporary learning facilities, including four Learning Communities, a Design and Technology building, Performing Arts Centre, Library, Food Technology facilities, Gymnasium, a purpose-built Innovation Learning Centre supporting STEAM learning, and an onsite re‑engagement facility supporting the College’s Connect Program.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

ICT / eLearning

ESC maximises the use of learning technologies to enhance student engagement, collaboration, communication and access to learning. Students have access to digital devices and online learning platforms that support learning, assessment and the development of digital capabilities.

The College uses Compass as a key platform for communication, with parents and carers able to access information about their child’s learning, attendance, assessment and progress. Digital technologies are embedded across the curriculum to support students to access, create and share learning in a range of contexts.

RESPONSIVE & INNOVATIVE CURRICULUM

ESC provides a responsive and innovative curriculum designed to engage students and respond to their diverse skills, abilities, interests and aspirations. Teachers use a range of contemporary teaching and learning approaches to ensure students are challenged, supported and able to experience success.

Targeted transition programs supporting students with additional needs and those at risk of disengagement as they move from Year 6 to Year 7.

A comprehensive Year 10 transition program supporting students as they prepare for senior secondary education at Bendigo Senior Secondary College.

A broad range of subjects and elective offerings across Years 7–10.

Curriculum programs aligned with the Victorian Curriculum across English, Mathematics, Humanities, Arts, Science, Languages, Design and Technology, and Health and Physical Education.

Opportunities to access specialist programs through the Bendigo Education Plan cluster, including the Athlete Development Program and STEAM initiatives.

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

ESC recognises the importance of strong partnerships between the College, students and their families. Parents and carers receive regular information about student learning, progress, attendance and wellbeing through a range of communication and reporting processes.

Ready to Learn conferences at the beginning of the school year and Parent/Teacher/Student interviews throughout the year.

The College’s contemporary facilities provide the capacity to deliver a diverse curriculum, including STEAM, project‑based learning, applied learning and specialist programs.

Small teams of teachers work closely with students through the Teacher Advisor (TA) structure, providing consistent relationships, mentoring and support. This approach contributes to a strong culture of connection, high expectations, effort and achievement.

Flexible learning spaces support a range of teaching and learning approaches and enable the effective integration of information and communication technologies. The design of the Learning Communities allows for effective supervision while also providing social and collaborative spaces where positive relationships can develop.

Selection Criteria

SC1 Demonstrated expert knowledge of the relevant curriculum. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage the implementation of school priorities, and the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum.

SC2 Demonstrated ability to lead the planning and implementation of high impact teaching strategies that respond to student learning needs. Demonstrated ability to support teachers to evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.

SC3 Demonstrated exemplary ability to monitor and assess student learning at a class, cohort or whole‑school level and use this data to lead improvement initiatives. Demonstrated ability to support others in using data to inform teaching practice and to provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.

SC4 Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the broader school community focused on student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement.

SC5 Demonstrated ability to model behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values and support colleagues to adopt these behaviours and attitudes. Demonstrated ability to reflect upon their own, others and whole‑school practice and contribute to the provision of whole‑school professional learning.

Role

Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.

Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.

Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.

Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching
