MEL Consultants Pty Ltd is an established wind engineering consultancy that undertake specialised wind tunnel testing and engineering studies for buildings and structures throughout Australia and internationally.

We are seeking a practical and reliable Wind Tunnel Operator / Technical Assistant to join our Melbourne team.

No previous wind tunnel experience required – full on-the-job training will be provided.

About the Role

- Setting up and operating wind tunnel testing equipment
- Monitoring tests and maintaining accurate test records
- Assisting with basic processing of test data
- Carrying out routine checks and basic maintenance of wind tunnel equipment
- Troubleshooting basic equipment and test setup issues
- Moving, storing and organising wind tunnel models
- Assisting model making team with the construction/preparation of models as required
- Keeping the wind tunnel, workshop and warehouse areas clean, tidy and organised
- Maintaining a safe, organized and efficient wind tunnel working environment
- Assisting with other general duties as required

As you gain experience, you will be expected to independently operate routine wind tunnel tests.

We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable, hands-on and willing to learn.

Ideally, you will have:

- Good hands-on and mechanical skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Good computer and maths skills
- Good problem-solving skills




- The ability to follow procedures accurately
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to undertake a variety of tasks and help where required
- Show initiative with respect to improving process, ideas, techniques for improving efficiency
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic

Previous experience with machinery, tools, testing equipment and having a forklift license would be an advantage, but are not essential.

A Certificate or Diploma in a technical or engineering-related field would be advantageous, but is not essential. A university engineering degree is not required for this role.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on role involving time spent in our wind tunnels, workshop and warehouse areas. The position involves manual handling and applicants must be comfortable undertaking physical tasks, including standing for periods of time, lifting and carrying models, equipment and materials as part of normal duties.
