There comes a point in a structural engineer's career where the next move shouldn't simply be about delivering another major project or adding another title to the CV.

It should be about influence. Influence over the business. The people. The clients. The projects you pursue. And ultimately, where the consultancy goes next.

We are seeking an accomplished Principal / Associate Director of Structural Engineering for a senior leadership opportunity within an ambitious engineering consultancy.

This is not a position for someone who wants to step away from engineering completely. We are looking for a structural leader who still enjoys major projects and complex engineering, but whose experience has developed considerably beyond technical design.

You may already be responsible for

- Leading significant structural engineering teams
- Managing major and technically complex projects
- Developing and maintaining key client relationships
- Winning work and converting opportunities
- Business development and strategic planning
- Project and business-unit profitability
- Resource planning and recruitment
- Mentoring and developing future leaders
- Commercial negotiations and fee proposals
- Improving systems, processes and project delivery
- Contributing to the wider direction of an engineering business

Your project background could include

- High-rise and complex building structures
- Major commercial developments
- Large mixed-use projects
- Transport and infrastructure-related structures
- Airports and major transport facilities
- Stadiums and entertainment developments
- Complex construction engineering




- Major institutional and public-sector projects

Technical credibility remains important.

You need to be capable of walking into a difficult design meeting, understanding the engineering problem and earning the respect of experienced structural engineers, architects, contractors and clients.

But at Principal / Associate Director level, technical capability is expected. What separates the right person is what they can do with it.

- Can you establish trusted relationships with clients rather than simply service projects?
- Can you recognise an opportunity, pursue it and convert it into profitable work?
- Can you understand the commercial performance of a business unit and make decisions that improve it?
- And can you help create an environment where valuable engineers actually want to stay?
- We are particularly interested in people who have worked within highly regarded structural engineering consultancies and have developed a strong network and reputation within the Australian market.
- You may currently be a Principal, Associate Director, Technical Director, Business Unit Leader or senior Associate who has reached the point where the structure above you is limiting what you can achieve.
- Perhaps you've become the person relied upon to deliver the difficult projects, look after important clients and develop the team – but the genuine business leadership opportunity never seems to arrive.
- This role is designed for someone who wants that responsibility.
