UDIA Queensland is the peak body for the urban development industry, representing the organisations and professionals who plan, finance, design, and deliver the communities in which Queenslanders live, work and play.

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Principal Policy Advisor to join our Policy Team and play a key role in advancing the property industry to create jobs and homes for Queenslanders. Reporting to the Executive General Manager, Policy, you will work closely with members, committees, local and state government stakeholders, and industry leaders to develop policy positions that support a thriving and sustainable development industry.

About the role

This is a high-impact position that sits at the centre of some of Queensland's most significant planning, development and policy discussions.

You will coordinate industry input, undertake policy analysis, prepare submissions to government, manage stakeholder relationships across the state, and communicate complex policy issues in a clear and compelling manner.

Working collaboratively with regional branches and volunteer industry leaders, you will help ensure the UDIA Queensland maintains a strong and evidence-based voice on matters affecting housing supply, planning, infrastructure, industrial development, and community creation.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

- Draft submissions and policy responses to government legislation, strategies and industry issues.

- Coordinate input from UDIA Queensland branches and committees to inform advocacy positions.

- Manage and support member policy committees and branch policy networks.





- Build and maintain relationships with local and state government stakeholders.

- Assist with the delivery of UDIA Queensland's proactive policy and advocacy program.

- Produce member communications, policy alerts and briefing materials.

- Prepare reports and updates for the Board and Executive.

- Contribute to research activities and help translate research findings into practical policy initiatives.

- Support the development of branch business plans, stakeholder engagement strategies, and local advocacy initiatives.

About you

To be successful, you will bring:

- At least five years' relevant industry experience.

- Tertiary qualifications in planning, urban development, public policy, economics, law or a related discipline.

- A strong understanding of planning, development, infrastructure or related policy environments.

- Demonstrated experience interpreting legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks.

- Excellent analytical, research and problem-solving skills.

- Outstanding written communication skills, particularly in preparing policy papers, submissions and stakeholder communications.

- Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

- The ability to work independently, exercise initiative and manage multiple priorities to tight deadlines.
