Merivale Farms is a family-owned piggery looking for a reliable and hardworking person to join our team, working primarily in our weaning shed.
This is a full time, hands-on position caring for newly weaned pigs. A key part of the role is being observant and ensuring pigs are healthy, eating and drinking well, and receiving the appropriate care.
What you'll be doing
- Daily feeding and checking of weaner pigs
- Monitoring pig health, behaviour and welfare
- Identifying pigs requiring additional care or treatment
- Administering treatments in accordance with farm procedures
- Moving and sorting pigs
- Checking feeders, drinkers and water systems
- Cleaning pens and maintaining shed areas
- Washing and preparing sheds between groups
- Maintaining treatment and livestock records
- Following strict biosecurity procedures
- Assisting with other piggery duties when required
About you
- Reliable and punctual
- Comfortable handling and working around pigs
- Observant and able to notice changes in animal health or behaviour
- Physically fit and comfortable with hands-on work
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Willing to learn
- Previous piggery, livestock or farming experience is an advantage, but training can be provided for the right person
Hours
- Monday–Thursday: 7:30am–4:00pm
- Friday: 7:30am–2:00pm
- Weekend roster: Approximately every third weekend, around 3 hours each day.
