The Opportunity

MidCoast Council is looking for a dedicated individual to join our Water Operations - Electrical department within the Infrastructure & Engineering Services Division as an Apprentice Electrician. This unique prospect combines hands-on practical training with formal education, where you will become fully qualified after 4 years.

In this role, you'll gain valuable experience working on real electrical projects while completing a prescribed TAFE course - Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (4 years). This blend of on-the-job training and classroom study will equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in this field.

We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about the electrical trade, eager to learn,



and committed to both practical and theoretical aspects of the role. If you have strong problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail, this traineeship is a perfect fit for you.

What You Learn:

- Hands-on experience supporting electrical work across water and wastewater facilities.
- Practical skills in installing, testing, maintaining and repairing electrical equipment.
- An understanding of pumps, motors, control systems and treatment plant operations.
- How to safely complete planned and unplanned maintenance in a water services environment.
- How to work effectively as part of a team while completing your apprenticeship training.

We're Looking for Someone Who:

- Has a genuine interest in electrical work and water services.
- Is motivated to develop a career as an electrician.
- Demonstrates reliability, commitment and a willingness to learn.
- Works safely and cooperatively as part of a team.
- Holds a P1 driver's licence or is working towards obtaining one.

Please note that to be a successful candidate for this role you'll be required to complete a pre-employment basic skills assessment and medical check (medical assessment will include a drug and alcohol test, sight and hearing, functional and medical component)

*Successful candidates will be required to obtain a General Construction Induction Card (White Card) prior to commencing on Monday, 1 February 2027.

What we offer?

Salary:

The salary for this apprenticeship ranges from approximately $32,500 to $55,300 in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award. Your salary will be determined based on your age, qualifications, and any previous work experience. Superannuation (12%) is additional.

An allowance of $101.32 per week will also apply (Water Allowance)

Location:

Upon commencement your normal place of work will be the MidCoast Water Services Depot located at Taree, Muldoon Street. Taree. You will also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure:

Full-time 38 hours per week over a 48 -month period.
