Bend Orthopaedics is seeking a warm, capable and patient-focused clinician to join our specialist orthopaedic practice.

This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional hospital nursing and become an integral part of the patient's journey — from pre-operative preparation, through surgery and into recovery.

About the role

Working closely with our orthopaedic surgeon and practice team, you will play a central role in coordinating and delivering an exceptional patient experience.

Bend Orthopaedics has a particular focus on joint replacement surgery, including Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) hip replacement, providing an excellent opportunity for a nurse with an interest in contemporary orthopaedic care to become closely involved in the patient's complete surgical pathway.

You will provide clinical assessment, education, coordination, reassurance and continuity of care across the pre-operative and post-operative journey.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Meeting patients following their surgical consultation and becoming a trusted nursing contact throughout their surgical journey
- Supporting patients undergoing a range of orthopaedic procedures, including DAA hip replacement
- Providing personalised pre-operative education and ensuring patients are fully prepared for surgery
- Educating patients about medications, fasting, hospital admission, recovery, pain management, mobilisation, precautions and post-operative care
- Reviewing medical history, medications, allergies, home supports and potential barriers to recovery or discharge, escalating concerns appropriately
- Coordinating referrals, theatre bookings, equipment and other requirements to ensure patients are well prepared for surgery
- Facilitating safe planning and continuity of care.
- Coordinating care across the patient's orthopaedic journey and liaising with relevant healthcare providers.
- Conducting structured post-operative telephone reviews to monitor recovery, identify concerns and provide reassurance and clinical guidance
- Undertaking scheduled post-operative nursing reviews, including wound assessment and dressing management
- Monitoring completion of post-operative imaging, coordinating surgeon review of results, and facilitating required follow-up appointments and investigations in accordance with the patient's treatment plan.




- Responding to patient concerns via the nursing mobile and using sound clinical judgement to determine when further medical review or escalation is required
- Monitoring pathology and radiology results as directed, identifying results requiring attention in accordance with practice protocols, and promptly escalating clinically significant findings to the treating doctor.
- Maintaining accurate, timely and high-quality clinical documentation and correspondence
- Working collaboratively with the surgeon, anaesthetists, hospital teams, physicians and the broader practice team
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of clinical processes, patient education and the overall patient experience

Clinical Assessment and Risk Management

Identifying and responding to post-operative complications such as infection, DVT, PE, neurovascular compromise and delayed recovery.

Identifying and managing clinical risks, complications and patient deterioration.

Applying advanced clinical judgement and making autonomous nursing decisions within scope of practice.

Quality Improvement and Clinical Governance

Participating in audit, quality improvement and clinical governance activities.

Contributing to incident review and implementation of improvement strategies.

Maintaining high standards of documentation, accountability and professional practice.

Evidence-Based Practice and Professional Development

Applying current evidence and best-practice guidelines to care delivery.

Maintaining ongoing CPD relevant to orthopaedic nursing.

Participating in education, reflective practice and professional development activities.

Supporting the development of patient education resources, clinical pathways and practice procedures.

What you'll bring

Registered Nurse applicants





- The role demonstrates advanced nursing practice through autonomous clinical assessment, complex care coordination, patient advocacy, clinical leadership, quality improvement activities and evidence-based decision-making across the orthopaedic patient journey.
- Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
- Recent and relevant clinical nursing experience
- Experience in orthopaedics, perioperative care, surgical nursing, musculoskeletal care or a closely related specialty
- Demonstrated competence in wound assessment, dressing management and recognition of post-operative complications
- Strong clinical assessment, documentation and escalation capability
- Current AHPRA endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner
- Relevant clinical experience in orthopaedics, surgical nursing, musculoskeletal care or a closely related specialty
- Advanced clinical assessment and decision-making capability
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously within scope of practice

For both

- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Robust attention to detail and clinical documentation
- Ability to work independently while seeking timely medical input when required
- Confidence using clinical software and digital communication systems, or the ability to rapidly learn new platforms
- Private specialist practice experience is highly regarded but not essential
- An interest in contemporary orthopaedic and joint replacement care will be highly regarded

Remuneration
