Job Description

This is an outdoor job on a rural property in the Macedon Ranges. We are looking for an experienced, self-directed handyman and farm hand to help maintain the property. A big part of the role is the garden and grounds, so we want someone who genuinely enjoys gardening and takes satisfaction in seeing a place kept well. The rest is a mix of house maintenance, repairs and farm work, so no two days look the same.

Key responsibilities

The garden and grounds

n

Ongoing maintenance of established garden beds: weeding, mulching, edging, feeding

n

Pruning, hedging and shaping, including fruit trees and ornamentals

n

Planting out recent beds and helping the garden develop over time

n

Mowing, whipper snipping and keeping lawns and surrounds sharp

n

Irrigation: setting up, checking and repairing lines and fittings

n

Seasonal work: autumn clean up, spring planting, summer watering, fire season preparation

n

Compost, green waste and general tidy up

n

Maintenance and repairs

n

General house maintenance, mostly outside

n

Carpentry: repairs, decking, gates, sheds, small builds

n

Painting and patching, interior and exterior

n

Fixing what breaks before it turns into a bigger job

n

Fencing for cattle and sheep: strainers, posts, wire, electric fencing, gates and yard repairs

n





Water troughs, tanks and general infrastructure upkeep

n

Clearing, rubbish runs and property work as it comes up

About you

n

A genuine interest in gardening and a good eye for how a garden should look

n

Extensive practical experience across house maintenance and trades work

n

Proven rural fencing experience with livestock fencing, not just suburban paling

n

Comfortable and confident around cattle and sheep

n

Happy working outdoors year round, in the cold and the heat

n

Current driver's licence and reliable transport to site

n

Safe, tidy work habits and someone who takes pride in the finish

n

Able to work independently and communicate clearly on progress and costs

n

Handy but not essential

n

Excavator experience

n

Horticulture qualification or nursery background

n

Chainsaw ticket

n

Welding or basic fabrication

n

Plumbing or electrical experience (unlicensed general knowledge is fine)

Flexible arrangement, part time or full time, minimum 2 to 3 days per week
