Upside Down Therapy Pty Ltd – Alderley QLD

Looking for a paediatric OT role where solid clinical reasoning and play actually belong together?

At Upside Down Therapy, we believe great therapy starts with understanding the child in front of us, not trying to fit them into a box.

We are a Brisbane-based paediatric Occupational Therapy practice with a strong clinical focus on sensory processing, regulation, praxis, motor development, participation, connection and play.

Our team works from a neuroaffirming, family-centred and child-led approach, drawing on Ayres Sensory Integration®, DIR® Floortime™, developmental neuroscience and relational, play-based practice.

Our days can involve swings, climbing walls, obstacle courses, movement, messy play, games and a lot of creativity.

Somewhere amongst all of that, there is usually a very serious clinical goal hiding behind a pirate ship, crash mat or block tower.

Underneath the fun is thoughtful clinical reasoning, meaningful goals and a team that genuinely cares about doing good work.

And we're looking for another OT to join us.

Why UDT?

We want UDT to be somewhere you can do great paediatric OT and keep becoming a better clinician while you do it.

- Above-award remuneration

- A maximum of five to six clients per day

- Flexible work hours within our clinic hours of 7:00 am to 5:00 pm

- A $1,500 annual professional development budget

- Two paid professional development leave days per year

- Fortnightly clinical supervision

- Incredible admin support and a dedicated Practice Manager, so you can spend more of your time being an OT

- A purpose-built paediatric clinic designed for active, sensory and play-based therapy

- Access to extensive sensory integration equipment, suspension equipment and climbing spaces, including some of Australia's leading SI equipment through our connection with SensoryU

- A predominantly clinic-based caseload, with community visits to schools, kindergartens, homes and other environments where required

- Access to our bonus and reward structure, so the team can share in the success of the practice

- Regular case discussions and opportunities to learn alongside experienced paediatric clinicians

- Opportunities to deepen your skills in sensory processing, regulation, praxis, motor development and relational practice

- Opportunities to develop your own areas of clinical interest

- A team that genuinely enjoys sharing ideas, problem-solving and learning from one another

- A workplace where you can take your clinical work seriously without losing the creativity and playfulness that makes paediatric OT so good

We don't want therapists simply filling appointment books.

We want clinicians who are curious about children, confident enough to ask questions and interested in continuing to build their skills.

Who we're looking for

We’re looking for a paediatric Occupational Therapist who genuinely enjoys working with children and families and wants to be part of a collaborative, learning-focused team.

Whether you’re an early-career OT ready to deepen your paediatric skills or an experienced paediatric OT looking for a practice where you can continue developing your clinical interests, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re less interested in someone ticking every possible box and more interested in finding someone who fits the way we work.

You’ll probably thrive at UDT if you:

- Are curious about the why behind what you're seeing

- Enjoy working through clinical problems rather than reaching for a one-size-fits-all solution

- Genuinely enjoy working with children and their families

- Value neuroaffirming, relational and family-centred practice

- Are reflective and open to feedback

- Enjoy learning alongside others

- Can work independently while still valuing having a team around you

- Care about doing things well

- Can move seamlessly from lying on the floor playing with a child to having a thoughtful clinical conversation with their parent

- Don't mind occasionally discovering glitter in places glitter should never be

What might your day actually look like?

You might start the morning building an obstacle course involving a swing, crash mat and climbing wall.

The clinical goals? Praxis, postural control, bilateral coordination, regulation, motor planning and confidence.

To the child? You're probably rescuing dinosaurs from lava.

Your next session might involve supporting a child who is finding dressing, handwriting, toileting, play, mealtimes, school participation or everyday routines difficult.

Later, you could be:

- Completing a sensory or developmental assessment

- Helping a parent understand what may be happening underneath their child's behaviour

- Collaborating with a teacher or educator

- Visiting a school or kindy to understand how a child participates in their everyday environment

- Developing an individualised intervention plan

- Writing a report that is actually useful to the people reading it

- Talking through a complex case with another clinician

- Celebrating something a child has been working towards for months

Some days are busy.

Some days are messy.

Most involve a fair bit of movement.

And very few look exactly the same.

What you'll bring

You’ll need:

- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy

- Current AHPRA registration

- Experience working as an Occupational Therapist

- A genuine interest in paediatric practice

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills

- An understanding of child development, participation and functional performance

- Strong organisation and time-management skills

- The ability to work collaboratively while managing your own caseload

- A commitment to evidence-informed, neuroaffirming and reflective practice

Experience or additional training in Ayres Sensory Integration®, DIR® Floortime™, sensory processing, trauma-responsive practice or other developmental, relational and play-based approaches is highly regarded, but it isn't essential.

You don't need to arrive knowing everything.

You do need to want to keep learning.

You’ll probably love it here if...

You think a therapy gym full of swings, climbing equipment and crash mats looks like a pretty great place to work.

You like asking, “What is this child telling us?” rather than jumping straight to, “How do we stop this behaviour?”

You enjoy having colleagues you can bounce ideas off.

You value strong clinical reasoning but don't believe therapy has to look clinical to be effective.

You care about relationships with families.

You understand that sometimes the best therapy session looks suspiciously like a child having a fantastic time.

And you want to work somewhere that takes paediatric OT seriously, without taking ourselves too seriously.

Sound like your kind of place?

Whether you're an early-career therapist ready to deepen your paediatric skills or an experienced clinician looking for your next team, we'd love to hear about what interests you, where you'd like to keep growing and what you could bring to UDT.

And yes, crawling through tunnels, building Lego, sitting on the floor, pushing people on swings and occasionally being defeated by a five-year-old in Uno may form part of your workday.
