The Trainee Ripener is a hands on role within the Australian Produce Partners ripening operation at Eastern Creek, working under the direct supervision of the Lead Ripener to learn accurate, on-time ripening of bananas & avocados. The role provides the operational backbone of the ripening programme; supporting incoming stock assessment, ripening room management, quality checks, and despatch sequencing, while building toward full ripening competency. The Trainee Ripener will be expected to develop proficiency across all ripened lines over time, initially under close supervision, and progressively with greater autonomy, working toward full Ripener level competency.

Key responsibilities

- Learn to manage incoming goods in accordance with the Ripening Plan
- Carry out ripening room operations per safe operation procedures
- Monitor and record temperatures, humidity, and ethylene levels in ripening rooms
- Accurately perform incoming quality checks, 24-hour checks, and pre-despatch checks
- Complete required quality documentation accurately and on time, including ripening records, temperature logs, and colour stage / firmness records
- Safely operate forklifts and other MHE as directed
- Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure the operation runs safely, efficiently,

About you

- Genuine interest in food quality, produce, or supply chain operations, and a strong willingness to learn hands-on ripening as a specialised discipline
- Solid attention to detail and a methodical, quality-focused approach to work
- Current Driver's Licence (open, C class)
- Current Forklift Licence (LF class), or willingness to obtain one (training supported by APP)
- Ability to understand, write, and communicate clearly in English; basic computer skills
- Right to work in Australia
- Comfortable working hands on in physically active, temperature-controlled environments
- Reliability and flexibility to work rotating shifts, including early mornings, weekends, and public holidays, in a seven-day operation
- Curiosity about the science of ripening - temperature, ethylene, and colour development
- Strong safety awareness and a willingness to follow structured SOPs
- Structured training and development pathway with milestone competency sign offs toward full Ripener-level competency across all ripened lines
