Summary This is a client-facing Senior Accountant / Client Manager opportunity with an established public practice firm, offering genuine autonomy, portfolio ownership and a clear pathway towards leadership and potential partnership. You’ll manage your own portfolio, become the primary point of contact for clients and work closely with the Partners across tax planning, business advisory and more complex client matters.

About the Role You will take ownership of a portfolio of clients and become their primary point of contact, building long-term relationships and providing support across accounting, taxation and broader business matters. Rather than simply processing compliance work, you’ll be encouraged to understand your clients’ businesses, identify opportunities and provide practical advice across tax planning, structuring and business performance. You’ll work closely with the Partners on more complex matters while also reviewing and mentoring junior and intermediate accountants.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing a portfolio of clients as their primary point of contact
- Building strong, long-term client relationships
- Preparing and reviewing annual financial statements
- Preparing and reviewing income tax returns and Business Activity Statements
- Providing tax planning and strategic taxation advice
- Identifying opportunities to improve client outcomes and add value beyond compliance
- Managing ATO correspondence and resolving more complex taxation matters
- Working closely with the Partners across business advisory and client strategy
- Reviewing work completed by junior and intermediate accountants
- Mentoring and developing less experienced team members
- Staying across changes to Australian taxation legislation and communicating these to clients
- Identifying opportunities to grow existing client relationships
- Improving internal accounting processes, systems and workflow efficiencies
- Managing competing deadlines, workflow and client expectations
About You You will have:
- 5+ years’ Australian public practice experience, ideally across Business Services and Tax
- CA/CPA qualification or be close to completion
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and income tax returns
- Strong technical knowledge of Australian taxation and accounting principles
- Experience managing your own client relationships and confidently leading client conversations
- A genuine interest in moving beyond compliance into tax planning and business advisory
- Experience reviewing, mentoring or developing junior accountants
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Xero experience is essential, with MYOB and/or QuickBooks experience advantageous
- Excellent organisation and the ability to manage multiple clients and competing deadlines
- Commercial awareness and an interest in helping develop and grow client relationships
- Ambition to progress within the firm, with the prospect to move towards leadership and potentially partnership over time
