What You’ll Get at Active Ability
Become a disability specialist
Disability is our core focus. You'll develop expertise in supporting people with complex disability and neurological conditions, while having the opportunity to develop your own clinical interests.
A structured approach to professional development
Start your 5-year professional development program, attend at least four whole-team professional development events each year, participate in regular in-services and work towards an individual Professional Development Plan.
Mentoring from experienced clinicians
Learn directly from senior physiotherapists and directors through supervision, case reviews, shadowing, clinical skill development and professional development sessions.
A supported transition from university to practice
Our 16-week onboarding program is designed specifically to help new graduates transition into community-based disability practice, with ongoing support well beyond your initial onboarding period.
Meaningful, rewarding work
Build genuine relationships with your clients and their families, carers and support teams. You'll see the difference your work can make as clients work towards meaningful goals and greater independence.
Complex and interesting clinical presentations
Our caseload includes people living with conditions such as spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease, motor neurone disease, Huntington's disease, cerebral palsy and rare neurological disorders, alongside a broad range of other disabilities and chronic conditions.
Variety in your caseload
Our capacity‑building approach means you'll work with a diverse client base rather than providing ongoing maintenance therapy.
Our clients range from approximately 2 to 70 years old, and no two days are the same.
A genuinely multidisciplinary environment
Work collaboratively with occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, dietitians, speech pathologists, behaviour support practitioners, support workers, support coordinators, GPs and other stakeholders.
Flexibility and autonomy
You’ll work primarily in the community, with the flexibility to manage your own diary, work from home when appropriate and attend our team days once a month in the office with the rest of the team, while having access to a supportive team and management whenever you need assistance, no matter where you are.
Your Responsibilities
- Thoroughly assess the Physiotherapy needs of your clients
- Design evidence-based Physiotherapy interventions for your clients
- Deliver successful goal-driven Physiotherapy interventions for your clients
- Engage enthusiastically in onboarding, training, professional development and mentoring opportunities
About You
We’re looking for someone who is curious, compassionate, motivated and eager to learn.
Essential criteria
- A passion for supporting people with disability as well as empathy, patience and a person-centred approach
- Eligible for AHPRA registration as a physiotherapist upon graduation
- Eligibility for Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) membership/accreditation
- Ability to work independently while recognising when to seek support
- Sound clinical reasoning and professional judgement as well as strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organisation and time management as well as strong administrative and computer skills
- Current National Police Check
- Current Working With Children Check
- Valid Australian driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle
- A SIRA Workers Compensation Approval Number (or willingness to obtain one)
Experience that would be highly regarded
- Experience volunteering with, supporting or working with people with disability
Ready to Start Your Career in Community Disability Physio?
If you’re looking for a new graduate role where you are supported to learn, challenged to grow and surrounded by clinicians who genuinely care, we’d love to hear from you.
