Employment Consultant - Karen Language Specialist (Fixed Term)

Fluency in spoken Karen and English is an essential requirement for this position.

This is a fixed-term, part-time opportunity (0.6 FTE) for an initial period of 6 or 12 months, working three days per week. Days of work can be negotiated with the successful candidate.

As an Employment Consultant within the Workforce Australia program, you'll play a hands-on role in guiding participants through every stage of their employment journey. You'll be the bridge between potential and possibility, helping individuals overcome barriers, build confidence, develop workplace readiness and secure meaningful, long-term employment.

This role has a specialist focus on supporting Karen-speaking participants. Combining employment services expertise with Karen language skills and cultural understanding, you'll provide personalised support that helps participants engage effectively with employment services, understand program requirements and workplace expectations, access relevant supports, and successfully transition into employment.

Working closely with participants from Karen backgrounds, employers, community organisations and support services, you'll build trusted relationships, identify opportunities, address barriers, and support sustainable employment outcomes. Through culturally responsive and person-centred support,



you'll help participants build brighter futures through meaningful work while making a lasting impact within the local Karen community.

Key Responsibilities:

- Build trusted relationships with Karen-speaking participants, providing culturally responsive support to help them overcome barriers and achieve employment goals.
- Utilise Karen language skills and cultural understanding to effectively engage participants and communicate employment, training and workplace information.
- Support participants with resumes, job applications, interview preparation, workplace readiness and onboarding activities.
- Proactively engage employers, reverse market participants and identify suitable employment opportunities aligned to participant goals and capabilities.
- Connect participants with training, Employment Fund assistance and community support services to address barriers and improve employability.
- Deliver post-placement support to participants and employers to maximise employment retention and long-term success.
- Manage a caseload effectively while maintaining accurate records, compliance requirements and contractual obligations.

What You'll Bring

While experience in employment services, community services or settlement services is highly regarded, we're looking for someone who brings the right combination of cultural understanding, communication skills and a genuine passion for helping people succeed.

- Fluency in spoken Karen and English, with the ability to effectively communicate information to Karen-speaking participants.
- Understanding of Karen culture, settlement experiences and the barriers that may impact employment participation and workforce engagement.
- Experience providing person-centred support,



case management, coaching or participant support services.
- Ability to build positive and trusted relationships with participants, employers, community organisations and other stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet KPIs in a fast-paced environment.
- Confidence using digital systems and technology, including Microsoft Office and client management systems.
- Full work rights in Australia, the ability to obtain a National Police Check and Working with ChildrenCheck.
- Current driver's licence and willingness to travel within the local service region.
