About the role

This is a newly created, standalone position reporting directly to the Directors. You will own human resources, workplace health and safety and payroll for the business, and you will have genuine scope to shape how all three work.

It is a hands-on role. You will be processing payroll and managing the detail of compliance, and you will also be the person employees and managers come to for practical advice on people and safety matters.

What you will be doing

- Processing end to end payroll, including award interpretation, superannuation, leave, payroll tax and Single Touch Payroll

- Managing recruitment, onboarding and inductions so new starters are set up properly from day one

- Maintaining employment contracts, policies, position descriptions and employee records

- Supporting managers with day to day people matters,



from probation reviews through to performance conversations

- Owning our workplace health and safety system, documentation, training registers and reporting, working alongside the construction team who manage safety on site

- Managing workers compensation claims and return to work coordination

- Improving the systems and processes that sit behind all of the above

About you

You will have practical experience across payroll and human resources and be confident taking on workplace health and safety.

- End to end payroll experience for a payroll of a similar size, including payroll tax

- Confidence interpreting modern awards and applying employment conditions

- Generalist HR experience across recruitment, onboarding and the employment lifecycle

- Working knowledge of the Fair Work Act and the National Employment Standards

- Experience maintaining workplace health and safety systems, documentation and records

- Workers compensation and return to work experience, or the willingness to take it on

- Accuracy, discretion and strong organisational skills

Experience in building, construction or another trades based industry will be highly regarded. Qualifications in human resources, workplace health and safety or payroll are well regarded, but practical experience matters most to us.
