Evidence Based Practice and Research Lead

About the role:

Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) is the national body representing over 17,000 members in the speech pathology profession. SPA supports and regulates the ethical, clinical and professional standards of its members as well as lobbying and advocating on behalf of all Australians living with communication and swallowing difficulties.

SPA is seeking an experienced Evidence Based Practice and Research Lead to provide specialist expertise across our resources, education, policy, research projects and member activities. Working collaboratively across the Association, you will support employees and speech pathologists throughout Australia to confidently apply evidence-based practice and research in their work. You will develop practical resources, provide evidence-informed advice, support research grant activities and contribute to initiatives that translate research into professional practice. This role will also support the integration of cultural responsiveness, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, and diversity, equity and inclusion across evidence and project work.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

- Develop, review and promote practical evidence-based practice and knowledge-translation resources
- Provide evidence-informed advice for policy, submissions, member resources, publications, conferences and other organisational initiatives
- Coordinate evidence and research resources, including CINAHL and SpeechBite
- Support the administration and ongoing improvement of the Association's research grant program
- Assist with grant documentation, timelines, communications, applicant support, data collection and evaluation
- Collaborate across teams and provide subject matter expertise for internal, Executive and Board reporting
- Monitor feedback, stakeholder input and resource usage to inform continuous improvement




- Embed culturally responsive and inclusive approaches across resources, projects and activities
- Contribute to priorities that support Speech Pathology Australia's Strategic Plan.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

- Certified Practising Membership of Speech Pathology Australia
- A minimum of seven years' professional experience
- Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based practice, research methodology and knowledge translation
- The ability to search for, critically appraise and synthesise research evidence
- The ability to communicate complex research findings to professional and non-technical audiences
- Strong organisational and project management capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A relevant postgraduate qualification, or equivalent experience in research, evidence-based practice or knowledge translation
- Experience communicating research and evidence-informed information through publications, presentations, professional resources or other channels
- A demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive practice
- The ability to work independently, exercise sound professional judgement and collaborate effectively across teams.

It would also be advantageous if you have participated in national or international research and evidence-based practice networks, contributed to academic conferences, or used social media in a qualified capacity.
