Murri Watch Aboriginal& Torres Strait Islander Corporation is a not-for-profit organisation incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (‘the CATSI Act’). Murri Watch is dedicated to:

- Reducing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander deaths and self-harm in custody by promoting the physical, cultural, economic, and social well-being of our community.
- Leading in culturally proficient and community-sensitive services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals vulnerable to contact with the police, affected by public drunkenness, watch-house detention, youth detention, homelessness, or at risk of homelessness.
- Ensuring continuity of care through specialised skills in engagement, assessment, creative interventions, and navigating human services support systems. Murri Watch was initially established in response to the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.

We continue our commitment to reducing the over-representation of First Nations people in the criminal justice system and to supporting people who are homeless, rough sleeping and transitioning to reliable housing.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Plan Support Worker provides direct client support and plan-based assistance to residents of the Bowman Johnson Hostel. Working under routine direction,



the role supports individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability to engage with their support plans, access services, and maintain safety and wellbeing during their stay. Consistent with SCHADS (crisis accommodation) Level 3, the position applies established practices and procedures, exercises judgement appropriate to the role, and contributes to a supportive, culturally safe hostel environment.

KEYSELECTION CRITERIA

- Experience providing direct support to people with complex needs in a community services or residential setting.
- Ability to work effectively under routine supervision and established procedures.
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based, and client-centred support.
- Positive communication, interpersonal, and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and respectfully.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
- Knowledge of homelessness, housing support services, or residential support environments.
- Relevant certificate-level qualification in community services or willingness to work toward one.

Mandatory Requirements

- Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card), if required.
- National Police Check
- Current Queensland Driver Licence.
- Ability to work shift patterns, including weekends or after-hours and overnights (sleep over shift) as required.
