Are you looking to grow your career in Human Resources while making a real impact in your local community? Mackay Regional Council is seeking a collaborative, proactive and customer-focused Talent & Onboarding Officer to join our People & Culture team on a temporary part-time basis.

In this hands‑on role, you will support high‑volume, end‑to‑end recruitment activities across Council, working closely with portfolio hiring managers, candidates and the broader Talent & Onboarding team to deliver a positive and timely recruitment experience.

This is a great opportunity for someone who has completed, or is currently studying, a Human Resources qualification, or who brings previous HR Assistant, administration or recruitment support experience and is ready to build practical capability in a supportive local government environment.

About this chance

As a Talent & Onboarding Officer, you will help coordinate recruitment processes from advertising through to onboarding. You will communicate with applicants, support hiring managers, maintain recruitment records, assist with pre‑employment checks and contribute to a smooth, professional and welcoming candidate journey.

What you will bring

- A genuine interest in Human Resources, recruitment, onboarding and people‑focused service delivery.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with candidates, hiring managers and internal stakeholders.
- Excellent time management,



attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a high‑volume environment.
- A collaborative, empathetic and proactive approach, with a solid customer service mindset.
- Previous HR Assistant, recruitment administration, business administration or similar experience, or current study in Human Resources or a related field.
- A willingness to learn, ask questions, take ownership and contribute positively to a supportive team environment.
