The Principal House Officer (PHO) – General Surgery plays a key role in delivering high-quality clinical care to patients within Procedural Services at the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS). Working under the supervision of Consultants and Registrars, the PHO contributes to the provision, development and maintenance of safe, effective and equitable surgical services across inpatient, outpatient and theatre settings.

The successful candidate will assess and manage patients, develop treatment plans in consultation with senior clinicians, support continuity of care across the patient journey, and actively participate in multidisciplinary team activities. The role also involves supervising junior staff and students, contributing to quality improvement and research activities, and ensuring high standards of clinical documentation and patient-centred care.

- Provide supervised clinical care for surgical inpatients, outpatients and theatre patients within a multidisciplinary team.
- Develop and implement patient management plans in consultation with Consultants and Registrars.




- Support the training and supervision of junior medical staff and undergraduate students.
- Contribute to research, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives and patient safety activities.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, facilitate effective handovers and support discharge planning.
