Focus Structural & Civil is a Central Coast engineering consultancy doing things a little differently.

Founded by three mates with decades of combined experience, Focus brings together high-level technical expertise with the responsiveness, relationships and personality of a close-knit local team.

We work across a broad range of structural and civil projects — from residential and bespoke developments through to industrial, commercial and complex multi-storey projects.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Graduate Structural Engineer ready to turn university knowledge into real-world engineering experience.

This won’t be a role where you spend your first year tucked away doing repetitive calculations without understanding the bigger picture.

You’ll work closely with experienced structural engineers and our directors across a diverse portfolio of projects, building your technical skills while learning how good engineering gets delivered — from concept design and documentation through to construction.

You’ll have support when you need it, responsibility when you’re ready for it, and plenty of opportunity to ask questions, get involved and learn directly from the people around you.

We want to develop engineers who can do more than calculate a beam. Over time, you’ll learn how to communicate with clients, work with architects and builders, solve problems on site, make considered design decisions and understand how your engineering affects the whole project.

Tasks / Duties





- Reviewing architectural and consultant drawings
- Assisting with concept and detailed structural design
- Structural analysis and design across a variety of building types
- Learning applicable Australian Standards, codes and industry requirements
- Designing structural elements using concrete, steel, timber and masonry
- Preparing calculations, sketches, reports and technical documentation
- Working closely with structural drafters to develop coordinated documentation
- Responding to technical queries from builders, architects and clients
- Undertaking site inspections and construction-stage support
- Developing practical solutions to site and construction challenges
- Building your project management and client communication skills as your experience grows

Skills & Experience

We’re looking for someone who has recently completed, or is nearing completion of, a Bachelor of Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification, ideally with a structural focus.

You’ll also bring:

- A genuine interest in structural engineering and the built environment
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- An understanding of fundamental structural engineering principles
- Positive written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture
- Curiosity and a willingness to ask questions
- A practical mindset and interest in how things are actually built
- The ability to work well as part of a team
- A willingness to take ownership of your work as your capability develops

Experience gained through internships, undergraduate work, construction,



drafting or related employment would be advantageous, but it isn’t essential.

More important to us is finding someone keen to learn, willing to get involved and interested in becoming a genuinely well-rounded engineer.
