As Yard Supervisor based at our Edinburgh Portables branch, you'll be responsible for leading daily yard operations, coordinating equipment movements and resources, and ensuring a safe, efficient and organised yard environment.
Working closely with operational teams, you'll establish daily priorities, manage equipment staging and transport activities, and provide leadership to yard personnel and contractors to deliver outstanding operational performance.
Your typical day will focus on
- Managing daily yard operations and yard triage activities
- Coordinating truck movements, equipment staging and hire schedules
- Overseeing loading zones and ensuring safe equipment movement throughout the yard
- Planning and prioritising work orders to meet operational and customer requirements
- Leading, coaching and supporting yard employees and contractors
- Allocating resources and managing daily workflow to optimise operational performance
- Using internal systems and technology to monitor activities and drive efficiency
- Building strong relationships with transport providers, operational teams and key stakeholders
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement across safety, productivity and service delivery
- Championing a Safety-First culture and ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures

What you'll bring to the role
We're looking for an organised and proactive leader who thrives in a busy operational environment and enjoys coordinating people, equipment and priorities.
You will ideally have:
- Experience in transport, logistics, fleet operations, scheduling or yard operations
- Previous leadership experience managing employees and/or contractors
- Strong organisational, planning and prioritisation skills
- Proven ability to coordinate multiple operational activities in a fast-paced environment
- Confidence using technology, operational systems and data to support decision-making
- A strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- A practical, solutions-focused approach and strong attention to detail
