An excellent opportunity has arisen for a junior tax lawyer to join the Brisbane office of a leading national commercial law firm.
This is a newly created position within a growing national tax practice and offers something quite rare at this level: genuine exposure to bothfront-end tax advisory and tax controversy/litigation, while working closely with a highly regarded senior tax Partner.
You will gain hands‑on experience across complex tax matters for major corporate, private and government clients, with direct Partner access and strong technical development.
The practice advises across the full life cycle of tax matters, from structuring and advisory work through to ATO audits, objections and Federal Court proceedings.
The Work
Your matters will include:
- income tax, CGT and GST advice;
- Australian duties and other state taxes;
- applications for private rulings;
- transactional and commercial tax advice;
- ATO reviews and audits;
- notices of objection and tax controversy;
- Administrative Review Tribunal proceedings; and
This breadth makes the role particularly attractive for a junior lawyer who wants to build strong technical tax skills without being confined to either pure advisory or pure disputes work.
About You
We would love to hear from lawyers with approximately1 - 3 years’ PAEand experience or a strong grounding in taxation law.
You may already be working within a specialist tax practice, or have broader commercial experience with meaningful exposure to tax.
You will ideally have:
- strong technical and analytical skills;
- an interest in both advisory and contentious tax matters;
- good commercial judgement; and
- the confidence to take increasing ownership of matters as your experience develops.
Candidates with an accounting or finance background are also encouraged to apply, provided you have substantive legal experience practising as a lawyer.
