Reporting to the Lead Mechanical Engineer, with heavy involvement in and from the systems and electronics leads, your:

Key responsibilities shall be:

n

- Product Design and Developmentn n
- Design opto-mechanical assemblies, mechanisms, housings, mounts, fixtures, and support structures.
n
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, bill of materials (BOMs), and technical documentation.
n
- Design products considering vibration, shock, thermal expansion, alignment stability, manufacturability, and environmental requirements.
n
- Conduct design reviews and provide recommendations for performance improvements and risk reduction.
n
- Support concept development, trade studies, and feasibility assessments.
n

n
- Optical System Integrationn

n
- Collaborate with external Optical Engineers to integrate lenses, mirrors, detectors, cameras, and laser systems into mechanical assemblies.
n
- Develop alignment methodologies and precision mounting solutions.
n
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and optical alignment verification.
n
- Define optical and mechanical interface requirements and specifications.
n

- Analysis and Simulationn

n
- Perform structural, thermal, vibration, and finite element analysis (FEA).
n
- Evaluate system performance under operational and environmental conditions.
n
- Assess mechanical impacts on optical performance and system reliability.
n
- Support design verification through modelling and simulation activities.
n

n
- Prototyping, Testing and Validationn

n
- Develop and support prototype builds.
n
- Define and execute engineering test plans.
n
- Conduct verification,



validation, environmental, and qualification testing.
n
- Analyse test data and implement corrective actions where required.
n
- Troubleshoot optical and mechanical integration issues.
n

n
- Manufacturing and Sustainment Supportn

n
- Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly teams.
n
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and design optimisation.
n
- Support engineering change requests and product lifecycle activities.
n
- Assist with supplier engagement, component selection, and qualification activities.
n
- Support production readiness reviews and first article inspections.
n

Required Qualifications

Education

n

- Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace or equivalent).
n
- Postgraduate qualification in Optics, Photonics, Systems Engineering, or related field desirable.
n

Experience

n

n
- 5-10+ years' experience in mechanical or opto-mechanical engineering.
n
- Experience designing precision mechanical systems.
n
- Experience supporting complex product development programmes.
n
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams
n
