We are looking for a Retail Store Manager to lead the team at Richmond Marketplace Newsagency! This is a fast-paced, high-volume role perfect for someone who loves staying busy and organized. You will manage everything from daily stock logistics and local supplier relations to cash reconciliation and NSW Lotteries operations.

Task & responsibilities





- Create and manage weekly staff rosters that align with peak trading hours (e.g., Thursday night shopping, Saturday morning rushes, and major lottery Super draw weeks) while controlling labor costs.
- Interview, hire, and onboard new retail assistants. Train staff on customer service excellence, product knowledge, and upselling techniques. Set clear daily goals for the team, provide real-time feedback, and address any performance or behavioural issues directly and professionally.
- Ensure all team members follow workplace safety guidelines, maintain clean workstations, and safely handle heavy inventory shipments. Oversee the ordering, receiving and scanning of diverse product categories, including newspaper, magazine, stationary, greeting cards, transit cards(Opal), and seasonal gifts. Manage the strict, time- sensitive process of scanning and returning unsold magazines and newspapers to distributors to secure maximum store credits.
- Maintain highly organized, clean, and visually appealing displays. Ensure high-margin giftware and seasonal items are prominently placed. Laise with local and corporate suppliers, negotiate stock placement, and manage delivery discrepancies.
- Manage large volumes of cash and digital transactions.



Oversee morning safe floats and ensure secure cash drops throughout the day. Reconcile point-of sale registers, lotteries terminals, and eftpos machines.
- Investigate and resolve and discrepancies or variances. Prepare cash deposits, secure takings in the store safe and manage banking runs according to company security protocols. Implement strict security measures to minimize stock shrinkage, shoplifting, and internal fraud.
- Build lasting relationships with regular locals, business owners, and syndicates within the Richmond and Hawkesbury community. Step in as the senior point of contact to handle escalated customer issues, technical ticket errors, or refund requests calmly and professionally. Maintain a fast, efficient checkout process, ensuring the team pivots quickly to reduce waiting times during morning and lunchtime rushes.

Qualification & experience

- Relevant qualification, minimum Diploma or higher in Business, Commerce or a related discipline. Previous experience in customer-focused retail environment. Knowledge of retail merchandising, purchasing, stock management and promotional activities.
- Three to Five years experience in retail management. Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to resolve customer enquiries professionally. Great organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions. Have great attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively in a busy, customer-focused retail environment
