A well-established private family transport group in Regional Victoria is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead its finance and administration function.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role with full responsibility of financial processing, reconciliations, reporting and compliance across multiple entities, alongside leadership of a capable finance, administration and payroll team.

You will work closely with the owners, providing high-quality reporting and commercial insight that underpins their decision-making, while keeping systems, controls and statutory obligations in good order.

What you'll do

Own all financial processing, reconciliations and reporting across the Group's entities, and deliver accurate, timely management, entity-level and consolidated reporting to the owners.

Lead the finance, administration and payroll team, maintaining effective internal controls, procedures and reporting disciplines.

Ensure taxation, payroll and statutory obligations are met, including monthly Business Activity Statements and reporting requirements specific to transport businesses and government agencies.

Manage capital expenditure analysis, approvals and budget monitoring, and provide financial modelling, cost accounting and analysis to support owner decisions.

Support tendering through costing, pricing analysis and preparation of financial information.

Maintain strong relationships with banks, finance providers, suppliers, customers, advisers and government agencies, and oversee effective, professional office administration.

What you'll bring

CA or CPA qualification (essential), supported by a tertiary qualification in accounting,



finance or a related discipline.

At least eight years' experience in accounting, financial control, financial reporting and finance team leadership, including reporting directly to owners, senior executives or a board in a private business.

Proven success managing finance and administration staff across payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general administration.

Strong technical financial accounting skills together with management and cost accounting capability across budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, tender support and performance reporting.

Advanced capability with an integrated financial management system covering general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll and asset management, such as Attache or similar.

Excellent communication skills and a sound understanding of taxation, payroll and statutory compliance in a multi-entity private group.

Experience in transport, logistics, regional or family business environments will be highly regarded.

The role suits someone hands-on and practical, comfortable moving between strategic financial oversight and day-to-day detail, organised and deadline-driven, and approachable enough to build effective relationships across the business and with external stakeholders. Commercial curiosity and a willingness to improve processes will be valued.

This appointment offers ownership of a broad finance and administration leadership role. You will work directly with the owners, shape sound commercial decisions, and play a central part in maintaining the financial strength, compliance and operational effectiveness of the Group.
