Job Description

This role is 100% focused on the company's own fleet — repairing sweepers and heavy vehicles in-house. Street sweepers are highly technical machines involving hydraulics, pneumatics, suspension and steering systems, and twin-engine configurations. You'll own the workshop end-to-end, including parts ordering, proactive maintenance planning, direct supervision of a diesel apprentice, building workshop processes and servicing schedules, maintaining workshop standards, stepping in to drive when needed, and reporting directly to the Director on fleet condition and workshop performance.

Key responsibilities

- Full ownership of parts ordering and supplier relationships within an approved spend authority
n
- Proactive maintenance planning across sweeper and heavy vehicle fleet — actively hunting down problems during downtime and servicing to minimise future breakdowns
n
- Direct supervision and mentoring of the diesel apprentice, developing them toward future workshop responsibility
n
- Building and owning workshop processes, servicing schedules, and fault-tracking systems
n
- Keeping the workshop clean, organised, and running to a high standard
n
- Step in and drive when a rostered driver is out sick or short-notice cover is needed
n
- Reporting directly to the Director on fleet condition and workshop performance

About you

n

n
- Trade-qualified diesel/heavy vehicle mechanic with runs on the board
n
- Current HR (Heavy Rigid) licence — essential
n
- Own tools — essential
n
- Experience with hydraulics,



pneumatics, suspension/steering systems and multi-engine plant
n
- Experience with electrical systems and fault diagnostics, including diagnostic software
n
- Fabrication and welding skills highly regarded
n
- Comfortable owning decisions — parts, scheduling, prioritisation — without needing everything signed off
n
- A natural mentor who wants to develop a junior mechanic
n
- Genuinely proactive: uses every bit of downtime to find and fix problems before they cause a breakdown
n
- Attention to detail and takes pride in a clean, structured, well-organised workshop
