The Team & Role

The Registered Midwife is a valued and integral member of the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating flexibility in caring for women, newborns and their families across the organisation. Working competently within their scope of practice, the midwife delivers protected, evidence‑based, person‑centred care across the full continuum of maternity services, including antenatal care, intrapartum support, postnatal care and domiciliary services. The role requires the ability to practise independently, provide 24/7 phone triage, attend LUSCS births as the primary midwife, respond to neonatal and adult resuscitation,



and contribute to high‑quality care within the maternity environment. The midwife supports learning through supervision of students and graduates, collaborates effectively within interdisciplinary teams, and upholds professional boundaries, documentation standards and organisational policies. With a strong commitment to patient safety, continuous improvement, family‑violence risk assessment, and quality care delivery, the midwife actively contributes to safe clinical outcomes, effective communication, and a culture of excellence while engaging in ongoing professional development.

Skills & Experience Required

- Current registration with the Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)/Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Midwife.
- Demonstrated practice within ANCI competencies and Code of Ethics/Professional Conduct.
- Annual completion of the Foetal Surveillance Education Program (FSEP)
- Current Neonatal resuscitation and Basic Life Support competency.
- Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of family violence and it’s impacts on victim survivors along with an understanding of MARAM and the Victorian family violence system.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Prepared to work rotating day/night/weekend shifts.




- Current and satisfactory National Police Records Check.
- Current Victorian Driver’s Licence - required for Domiciliary visits.
- A good understanding and working knowledge of best practice nursing and current clinical issues.
- Demonstrable interpersonal skills that engage women in their care.
- Ability to time manage and work in a busy ward environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and consultatively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated skills in problem solving and decision making.
- Experience in a rural health care setting.
- Evidence of ongoing self-development and well-developed clinical skills.
