Senior Compliance Officer

This established NSW local government organisation is committed to maintaining high regulatory standards, supporting its community and delivering professional compliance services. Due to operational requirements, they are seeking an experienced Senior Compliance Officer to join their Statutory Planning and Certification team.

Your new role

Reporting to the Regulation and Compliance Manager, you will assist with promoting, maintaining and enforcing regulatory standards across the Local Government Area.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Investigating suspected breaches of planning, environmental and local government legislation
- Monitoring existing land uses and development activities
- Ensuring compliance with development consents and conditions of approval
- Investigating illegal development activities
- Preparing detailed reports, statutory notices and orders
- Providing compliance advice and education to members of the public
- Responding to complaints and negotiating timely outcomes
- Preparing and presenting evidence in Local Court and the Land and Environment Court
- Conducting relevant premises and on-site sewage management inspections
- Liaising with internal teams, external stakeholders and members of the community
- Supporting continuous improvement, risk management and workplace safety practices

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this position, you will have:

- Demonstrated experience in regulatory enforcement, planning, health or building surveying




- Relevant qualifications in statutory investigation and enforcement, local government planning, health and building surveying, or an equivalent discipline
- Strong knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, Local Government Act 1993 and related regulations
- Experience investigating compliance matters and interpreting development approvals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong negotiation, dispute resolution and problem-solving abilities
- The ability to prepare professional reports and court evidence
- The ability to manage multiple matters within strict deadlines
- Confidence working independently and collaboratively
- A current NSW Class C Driver's Licence

Previous local government experience and relevant tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded. The successful applicant will also be required to complete a pre-placement medical and National Police History Check.
