General Description
The Assistant Principal reports directly to the Principal and has primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the College to ensure the effective development, delivery and evaluation of the education program.
Within their designated area of responsibility, the Assistant Principal will exercise authority to make significant decisions relating to programs, budgets, staffing and resources, within the framework of the College's strategic plan, policies and budget. The Assistant Principal will also contribute to the overall management of the College through policy development, strategic planning and decision-making.
The management of significant College programs and functional areas requires the Assistant Principal to analyse student and staff needs and translate relevant educational policies and frameworks into effective programs and practices that support improved outcomes for all students.
Typically, the Assistant Principal will be responsible for the effective allocation and use of teaching staff, budgets and other resources within their designated area, as well as providing leadership and oversight of relevant programs and initiatives.
It is important to note that the responsibilities of the Assistant Principal extend beyond the specific areas outlined in this position description and may include broader College leadership responsibilities as required.
Key Responsibilities
Typically, Assistant Principals perform one or more of the following functions:
Supervision and coordination of the work of senior curriculum or level coordinators.
Allocation of budgets, positions of responsibility and other resources within their area of responsibility.
Supervision and oversight of the delivery of teaching and learning programs.
Leadership and management of programs that support the professional learning, knowledge and experience of staff.
Responsibility for general discipline matters beyond the management of classroom teachers and year-level coordinators.
Contribution to the overall strategic and operational management of the College.
Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development
At Yarrabing Secondary College, the Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will be accountable to the College Executive Team and will provide leadership, advice, direction and support to the College Executive, teaching staff and wider College community within their designated area of responsibility.
The Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will lead initiatives that strengthen teaching practice, teacher capacity and professional growth across the College. In liaison with the College Executive and in accordance with College policies, the Assistant Principal will work collaboratively with the Assistant Principal - Curriculum and relevant Leading Teachers/Learning Specialists to develop and implement programs that enhance teaching excellence, professional practice and pedagogy in classrooms.
The primary responsibility of this position is to coordinate,
manage and monitor a range of programs that support the professional growth and capacity building of staff and contribute to a positive culture of high expectations, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Working collaboratively with the Assistant Principal - Curriculum, the Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will contribute to a coordinated approach to strengthening professional practice and improving teaching and learning across the College.
The leadership focus of the role will include facilitating forward planning, fostering a team-oriented approach and supporting high levels of professional expectation and aspiration among staff.
The Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will exercise sound judgement and initiative in identifying and resolving issues raised by staff, ensuring that relevant policies, procedures and professional standards are consistently applied. These responsibilities will be exercised within the broader policies and strategic direction of the College and under the supervision of the College Executive.
The Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will work collaboratively with other Educational Leaders in Teaching and Learning. As the College grows, the leadership team will continue to evolve, with responsibilities negotiated with the Principal Team and allocated according to the needs of the College, the expertise of individual leaders and opportunities for leadership development.
The Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will provide advice to the College Executive and Leadership Team on matters relating to teaching excellence, staff growth and strategies for continuous College improvement.

Responsibilities
Professional Development & Connectedness
Oversee and develop strategies and events that further develop staff culture and strengthen staff members¿ sense of belonging and connectedness to the College.
Lead and manage the College's staff induction process to support the effective transition and development of new staff.
In conjunction with the College Executive and Leadership Team, develop, implement and document a whole-school Professional Learning Plan based on individual staff and College needs.
Coordinate, manage and monitor a range of professional learning programs that support the ongoing professional growth of staff, including:
professional support and collaboration between staff within and beyond the College;
facilitation and monitoring of peer observations;
regular school-based professional development for whole staff and/or targeted groups; and
access to relevant external professional development opportunities for individuals and groups.
Identify and publish regular Career development Staff Bulletin Reports highlighting qualified learning opportunities available to staff.
Implement and monitor feedback opportunities for staff, including peer observations and feedback informed by student and parent experiences.
Lead and manage the College's Mentoring Program.
Coordinate the VIT registration process for graduate teachers.
Coordinate the pre-service teacher program of the College.
Provide support and coaching to teachers to embed research-based teaching and learning strategies, including VTLM 2.0, HITS and the College's adopted GANAG teaching framework.
Oversee the College's Coaching Program and together with relevant Leading Teachers/Learning Specialists, work closely with teachers in the role of instructional coach.
Oversee the College's middle leaders professional development programs.
Support staff to monitor and analyse student learning data at individual and cohort levels, using evidence to inform teaching strategies and identify areas for improvement.
As a member of the College Leadership Team, support the implementation of Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) and their contribution to curriculum improvement.
Liaise with relevant College Leaders to support staff in the effective use of ICT and digital technologies, including Compass & the Google Suite.
Oversee the whole-school Professional Learning Program and ensure alignment between professional learning priorities, the College's Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) and School Strategic Plan (SSP).
Oversee the College's Walkthrough Data Collection Program that is used by the college to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning practices. Collaborate with staff and Leadership to identify professional learning needs identified by this classroom observation data and use findings to inform the College's Professional Development Plan, AIP and SSP.
Convene regular meetings of relevant professional learning and curriculum groups.
Performance & Development Process
Lead and manage the school-wide Performance and Development Process (PDP).
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of staff PDPs, goals and professional development.
Liaise with the College Leadership Team to develop processes that support staff to use evidence and data to inform their skilled practice and performance, in alignment with College expectations and Department of Education standards.
Review the performance and professional development of designated staff as part of the Performance and Development Process.
Other Responsibilities
Actively contribute as a member of the College Leadership Team.
Represent the College at designated events and activities.
Provide leadership and support during short-term Principal Class absences during the school day, as required.
Undertake other duties as allocated by the Principal.

Qualification Requirements
To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class:
The person must have provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching; and
if the person completed an Australian postgraduate level initial teaching program or course of study on or after 1 January ****, they must demonstrate that they have satisfactorily completed a postgraduate level accredited initial teacher education program that has been accredited by an Australian State or Territory Teacher Regulatory Authority as satisfying the requirements of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership 'Accreditation of initial teacher education programs in Australia: Standards and Procedures'; and

About Us
Yarrabing Secondary College opened in Term ****** and provides the growing local population with great educational opportunities close to home. In **** Yarrabing Secondary College had a student population of 680 students in Year 7, 8 & 9. The college will progressively grow by one year level thereafter. In ****, we will have Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 students only. In **** it is anticipated that there will be provision of a small number of VCE studies to its accelerated Year 10 students that the college is currently in the process of accrediting for. By ****, the college will provide an extensive senior school offering to its senior students of traditional VCE subjects, as well as VM, VPC and VET.
Yarrabing Secondary College is located 29 kilometres west of Melbourne, in the suburb of Aintree. When fully established in ****, the school is anticipated to have **** students enrolled from Year 7 to 12 and 130 school staff members.
