Lead A-Grade Electrician - Service and Projects

PROLEC is looking for a highly capable electrician to step into a hands-on leadership position within our electrical team.
This isn't an office-based supervisor role, and we're not looking for someone who wants to completely step away from the tools.
We're looking for an experienced electrician who enjoys running jobs, solving technical problems, working with customers and leading other electricians by example.
You'll remain actively on the tools while taking responsibility for a small team of electricians and apprentices, helping maintain the quality, technical standards and customer service PROLEC is known for.

The Role
As our Lead Electrician, you'll work closely with our Operations Manager and Director while providing day-to-day technical leadership to approximately 4-5 electricians and apprentices.
You'll personally run a variety of electrical service and project work while also being available to assist other technicians when they encounter difficult faults, installations or technical decisions.
Your role will include:
Running electrical projects from start to completion
Remaining actively involved in electrical installation, service and fault-finding work
Leading and supporting a small team of electricians and apprentices
Providing technical assistance to technicians in the field
Diagnosing complex electrical faults and developing practical solutions
Planning labour, materials and the sequence of works for your jobs
Reviewing jobs before commencement and identifying potential issues
Communicating professionally with customers, builders and other trades
Ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
Completing testing, verification and electrical compliance requirements
Maintaining high standards of job documentation and technician notes
Checking completed work and helping maintain quality across the electrical division




Mentoring developing electricians and apprentices
Working with management to continually improve how we deliver our electrical services
The Work
PROLEC completes a broad range of residential and commercial electrical work throughout Melbourne, with a strong concentration across Melbourne's north-east.
Our work includes:
Electrical service and fault finding
Switchboard upgrades
Consumer mains and three-phase upgrades
Metering and group metering
Residential electrical projects
Commercial electrical works
Underground electrical infrastructure
EV charging installations
Electrical renovations and upgrades
Power, lighting and control systems
Electrical compliance and testing
About You
You'll already be a highly capable electrician with significant experience across the electrical industry.
You don't necessarily need to have held a formal management position before.
What's more important is that you're already the electrician people trust to make the call when something isn't straightforward.
You will ideally have:
Victorian A Grade Electrical Licence
Extensive post-apprenticeship electrical experience
Strong residential and commercial electrical knowledge
Excellent fault‐finding and diagnostic ability
Strong knowledge of AS/NZS **** and Victorian electrical requirements
Experience with switchboards, mains upgrades and electrical distribution systems
Experience running your own jobs and coordinating other tradespeople
The ability to supervise and support electricians and apprentices
Strong testing and verification skills
Good organisation and job planning skills
Professional communication with customers
Current Victorian driver's licence

What This Role Isn't
This isn't a position where you'll spend your week driving between sites checking what everyone else is doing. It's a genuine working electrician's role. You'll still have your tools out, you'll still diagnose faults, you'll still install and you'll still run jobs. The difference is that you'll also have the authority and responsibility to help lead the electrical team around you. If your goal is to remain technically strong while moving into a more influential position within an electrical business, this role has been designed for exactly that progression.
